We where flying Southwest and had a layover at Chicago Airport. We decided to have some Asian food and went to Big Bowl Chinese & Sushi to grab a bite. We love Chinese food and ordered two combos (pick two) sesame chicken and Mongolian beef for $20 each. This is the first time of ever writing a review of a food place but this food was terrible so I couldn't help myself. Flavors where all wrong and Mongolian beef had a weird sticky texture. I had about three bites of the combo and trashed the rest. Worst food I have ever had. Staff just doesn't seem to care.
Service here is good enough, nothing spectacular. They also have plenty of comfortable seating and a very cute bar that I did not visit. Maybe next time. The reason I took stars off is not because the food is bad per se. The food is decent, again nothing crazy. Portions are good as well. However, the sesame chicken had a heinous amount of onions. Red onions, some cooked soft, some basically fresh still and crunchy. And green onions the same way-both in big pieces. I like onions but this was a little ridiculous. After I ate all the chicken and a fair amount of the onions, I still had a giant pile to the side of my tray. The lo mein was decent but definitely not fresh. If you're going to cut your protein dishes with veggies to save money, please use cabbage, broccoli or something less offensive than an allium. I will probably come back to try a different dish or maybe see if my experience was out of the ordinary. Hopefully so.
Horrible Horrible Horrible
I'm rating this 5/5 given that it's in an airport. I had the tofu and vegetables and it was actually good with lots of fresh veggies like mushrooms, green beans, broccoli, and bell peppers in a tasty sauce. I was prepared for mediocre at best and was very happily surprised.
Здесь лучшая еда из всех точек питания в терминале 5 Да, не идеальная. Да, дороже чем обычно стоит китайская еда. Но на фоне остального здесь идеально
Portion sizes are decent. Service was good too. Overly priced like all airport food, but what do you expect. $20 for a bowl. Kung Pao was really good and had perfect amount of heat, Mongolian beef was great and not overly salty. Jasmine rice sun-par, recommend a sub. I’ll be back again.
Writing this as I push my disgusting food away from me. This is absolutely nasty and practically inedible.
This place is a disaster. Employees yelling at customers,” Big Bowl is closed” over and over. People getting upset, refunds given. Why not advertise “closed” on the TV screens when switching from breakfast to lunch. Travel a lot and work in restaurants, this was embarrassing.
Mongolian beef with broccoli and 2 potstickers (gyozas) ordered. To be honest, it was the best option I found at terminal 5 O’Hare (Chicago). Airport prices.
