An UWS staple for baked goods. Come for the nibbles (rugelach, croissants, egg sandwich, quiche, etc) and take home a sourdough loaf or babka to make every day a special day. Breads Bakery would make Paul Hollywood proud IMO.
Terrible smoked salmon sandwich— seems like they use the cheapest smoked salmon available.
I wish I could give this bakery twelve stars! Thank you for always being respectful and beyond wonderful in your service. I always enjoy coming here. Everything I've tasted has been delightful! I highly recommend the chocolate and cinnamon babka, the spinach and feta burekas as well as the potato and the challah bread! May you be blessed with many years of patronage and grace.
Look, it will surprise exactly none of the upper west side, many of whom wait in the long lines over the weekend just for this, that the chocolate babka is off the bleeding hook. It's so good that the bread surrounding the chocolate tastes as chocolatey as the chocolate, which is something of a feat when you consider how much it's actually bread, and how bready bread actually is. Can't recommend highly enough. We heard about a place in Jersey that had "babka as good as Breads Bakery" but when we tried it, they actually had babka as good as Dunkin Donuts donuts, which isn't all that good for babka. Don't go for the salads or whatever.
