Tocaya Modern Mexican

Tacos are made with handmade tortillas. Flavors are always fresh. Highly recommend their fish tacos. The atmosphere is chill. Parking: This place shares parking with other businesses so it could be crowded.

I've been wanting to try Tocaya for a while, until I came across this Manhattan Beach location. Had a tasty margarita to start while I was waiting for my wife and got the chips/plantain and salsa and that I didn't enjoy. Salsa had a very particular flavor and the plantains were bland and not crispy. Food selection is ample, and decided to go with street corn, tacos and a bowl to try several options. Food was good in general, nothing outstanding. The street corn was extremely hot and couldn't finish it. The nice waiter offer to change it for a milder one but it came equally spicy. Agua fresca was really good and necessary to wash it out. The place has very comfortable chairs and tables and the decor is beautiful. We will definitely return.

I placed my order via UberEats so I can't comment on the atmosphere. I gave 5 stars for service because I called to have sauces removed from one order due to allergies and they made that happen (no option to add notes in the app). Now to the food. I was SO very disappointed. I've looked forward to trying Tocaya based on a recommendation. I ordered 2 taco combos with agua fresca - one baja fish and one salmon. The aguas frescas were great. We had the hibiscus ginger and strawberry basil. The tacos were so small it was offensive. The tortilla was a little smaller than street-size tortillas. The salmon portion was about 1/4 of a small filet - about the size of a salmon bite. The price does not reflect the amount of food you receive. Now, I'm off to make myself a snack since my meal was more like an appetizer.

We like ordering their taco sample with guacamole+plantain chips and black beans.
