My wife and I recently discovered this place on a warm sunny Texas afternoon adventure when we were both hankering for a margarita. Our hostess was so awesome and kind and got us seated outside at a table. The atmosphere was festive with a brightly decorated patio. Our server was attentive and kept our chips and salsa/guac topped off as we slipped into our margarita haze. The margaritas at this place are top notch, the GOAT. Don’t sleep on Texican cafe for patio margs and appetizers.
Seriously some of the best margaritas I’ve ever had in my life! The coconut margarita is my go-to. Chips & guac are 10/10!
As a native Houstonian who takes pride in the quality and creativity of Tex-mex in the Houston area, I struggle to find words for this food. The closest I can come to describe the food can only be said in two words: blown away. Numerous Facebook debates - who had better Tex-mex between Austin and Houston- would’ve led me to believe that Houston was in another league. I can now confirm that Houston is in another league, and that league is the B league. I have been reborn as a good critic. I can now wholeheartedly say that Austin, not Houston, owns the title for best Tex-mex. Restaurants like these make me understand why Blake Shelton waiting so long for Austin to finally call. Thank you Texican cafe, you have restored my faith in dining.
Wonderful colorful decor is the perfect ambience for Texmex. Get the grilled cabrito! That's my favorite dish, and not easy to find in this area. The relleno is also spectacular.
Downside: refried beans are made with lard and the charro beans have meat in them so only the black beans are vegan. Never got an answer about whether the rice was vegan or not. Also, there is like 2 vegan options total on the whole menu. Upside: the salsa has a good flavor profile. The homemade tortillas are great. This place is huge, with plenty of parking. Whomever checks these reviews: Mexican food is literally super easy to veganize and you have all the items on the menu that you can do something with. Offer something more than veggie fajitas.
