I had heard about Shiraz and finally had an opportunity to visit. The place looked with an interesting mix of east/west decor. Tables were nicely arranged and had tastefully set up. I ordered a Koobideh Kebob, a Diet Coke, Maust Khiar (an appetizer, very tasty), ice cream and Sho’leh Zard ( Zafron rice pudding, this one was to take home). The menu prices are somewhat higher than most Persian places I have been too, and I thought it must be for higher quality ingredients. The Mayst Khiar was fantastic! The Kebob disk looked beautiful but tasted on the average side largely due to the gamey taste of the meat. Persian ice cream was great and sever (Saeed) was attentive. Then came the check! Nothing on my check matched what I had seen on the menu!! I paid the bill and made a point to check online later. Also when I opened the Zafron rice pudding ( Shole Zard) it was all moldy and old which went straight into garbage. Later I checked online and every single item’s price was higher than what is stated on the menu. I did take screenshots just to back up my claim. In the end, I agree with a prior reviewer that if the goal was to get a onetime patron, the succeeded. If you go there, remember to ask for a menu and verify the check.
I have never seen Shandiz offered at any Persian restaurant in San Diego. This restaurant is the best. Great food, friendly service, and a complimentary belly dance show on Saturdays. The ingredients are carefully selected and masterfully cooked. Five stars all the way.
