Rubio's is severely underrated, and I think it has to do with the name of the place - it doesn't convey the sense of type of food they serve, it just sounds like a local Mexican taqueria, but it is not. It is a baja style counter service chain delivering healthy, high-quality, and amazing (!!!) tasting food at the best prices around for fish, shrimp, and regular meat options in taco, burrito, or bowl form. If you don't have seafood eaters in the group, the chicken and beef options are still better than most all taquerias. Rubio's has been steadily shutting down locations in the Bay Area and it is a shame! The 3 closest locations to where I live have all closed, so now I have to drive way out of my way to get here, but even still, it is worth the journey. Come support this place and keep the last few spots open! Just be prepared to wait a little longer than most other places, they get a lot of to-go orders and seem to be understaffed perpetually, but it is worth the wait. High quality takes time, and you can the the employees hustling all the time. Be kind, be reasonable. My favorites are the tacos. I usually order the Coastal Trio, which allows you to substitute for any of their options. I usually get one of the Mexican Street Corn Shrimp or Gourmet Shrimp tacos (both served with a crisped cheese on the inside of the corn tortilla... out of this world tasty), Blackened Mango Mahi Mahi, or Blackened Salmon. The basic Fish Tacos are excellent too, with specials for lunch, on Tuesdays, and Fridays. They have awesome agua frescas, mango lime being a must for me. Their mexican street corn on the side is also amazing. I always appreciate salsa bars with a lot of variety, and they serve around 6-8 different salsas at any given time, all distinct, all delicious, of various spice levels.
