R+D Kitchen

We got a table for two and the host told us the table is almost ready and please wait outside. We waited for 40 minutes and still nothing happened. When we asked for some responses both the host and the manager responded in a rudest possible way. Super disappointment with this resturant…

Hamburger came out undercooked after ordering medium. Then I was told they have a different temperature system , perhaps explain while the customer is ordering. We ordered Medium and the bun was soggy with blood. Eating our meal, along with 4 appetizers and drinking $17 margaritas we were told by the manager the table has a two hour limit and we had only been sitting for 60 minutes. The manager (young woman) had absolutely no people skills and was very rude.

My experience at R&D was terrible today. The manager, Katelyn was, to put it nicely a snot. Not friendly and would not allow my daughter to sit at the table with me and her Aunt because we were at a table for two (which really can seat 4). My daughter is 18 wanted to join us today to say hello and have a ham burger. I understand that there are rules and politely asked the manager if I could order a burger for my daughter. I’m happy to leave and pay for her burger so there are no more than two at the table. The manager’s response, “ she needs to put her name in and wait. There are other guests”. This was my daughter that I would have kindly got up from the table, paid the bill and not return. I will never revisit with my friends, family or co workers as long as this manager is still employed.

booked a reservation on a busy night yet the service was still excellent! I asked for tartar sauce and spicy mayo and they delivered!! The french fries were so crispy, which I like. I ordered the chicken meatballs and spaghetti and it was delectable. My dad ordered the steak and asked for medium well but it was medium. However they had no problem of recooking the steak for him. Definitely bringing my family back!! Vegetarian options: They have a veggie burger

R&D is another fabulous Hillstone establishment. It's fantastic. The night we went it was pretty busy. There's a small parking structure right outside with plenty of parking (it was nearly empty when we visited). Our server was lovely, but didn't know many details about the menu. We have a special diet and instead of saying "I don't know, let me ask" to many of our questions, she gave us the wrong answer, we ordered, then she asked, found out she was incorrect and we had to place a new order which was a little frustrating. The food was great. The ambiance was fantastic. I'm not really a fan of TVs at an upscale feeling place, but they were fine. They do have a dress code, which I love. If you wear a hat, they'll ask you to sit outside on the patio.

Not as good as it used to be unfortunately but service is still top notch. Reservations is recommended since it gets very busy no matter the time of the day. For fashion island the price is reasonable.
