Excellent service, wine cheese selection. But confit de canard should be tender and juicy. I understand that it may be put under a broiler or in a hot oven to crisp the skin. Seems mine was left there too long because it was dry and unpalatable. Wasn't crazy about the pate either. Hard and just tasted like salami.
As French as possible in the U.S. - simply astounding food and service.
Always a great meal and overall dining experience. Don't skip the cheese cart.
Great food and people. Service is always wonderful
Classic French cuisine. Wonderful atmosphere feeling of being in a traditional bistro in Paris. The food was fantastic. The onion soup was divine. Expensive but the food is worth it.
Every dish was terrific especially the French soup!
Dear Gentle reader, I feel that it is necessary to inform you that this place is indeed, "Overrated". In the sense that, the food is priced incredibly high for its mere mediocrity, and the service is frustratingly mediocre. Lack of robust flavors and quantity was simply ridiculous. I have just returned from my travels in France and I thoroughly enjoyed the food there. So, I thought, "Why not relish some more French cuisine"
I was not only disappointed by the food, but also by the service. As a person of color, I try not to subject myself to being oppressed when any minor inconvenience comes my way but, I sure was insulted when my family (the only black people in the restaurant) and I were sat in the very back corner. I tried not to take that too personally, but it was odd; considering I had made a reservation, showed up on time (early), and there were many other open tables in the nicer and well lit parts of the restaurant. Our waiter then switched to a black waitress soon after we were seated, as if we NEEDED another black person to communicate with us, and that it'd be easier. I don't like to overly read into things, but TRUST, when I get the wrong vibe, I know it. This waitress, "Deb" was very rude mannered. She interrupted multiple times. And was condescending with how she (Inaccurately) corrected my Grandparents and my Mother's pronunciation of the French words on the menu. She just had an egregiously patronizing and impatient attitude as did the man that came around 7 times to ask for the check while my family and I were still chatting. Listen, if I'm going to spend almost $300 on a meal at your uppish restaurant, you're going to let me sit down and finish my conversation. Last but not least, I asked for their cheesecake without the honey orange coulis sauce due to my honey allergy, and the cheesecake came back with honey on it. I said what I said. Don't waste your money.
Edited to add: We have since been back and have had great experiences!
We have been to Petit Louis many times before and we went last night and it was really not the best! It was like the kitchen was dialing it in. I had the fois gras paired with sweet wine and that was great my partner had the crevette beignets and it was like we were at Ruby Tuesday’s. Deep fried and soggy. For my main, I had the sweetbreads and the came half cooked and greasy but with with ribbons of raw flour. As you know… sweetbreads are delicate. They were poorly cooked and underwhelming. Dry and tasteless on a bed of mushrooms. No brandy cream sauce or glaze. Just really underwhelming and poorly cooked. As a French person who knows French food, I think this place is underwhelming and reliant on there location in the glitzy Roland park area. It’s been a great place and maybe it was an off night but seriously a downer.
First of all, the staff took the time to read that it was my daughter's birthday and the host said happy birthday right when we checked in. The little things count! The escargot were simply delicious. The French Onion Soup classic. I had pork tenderloin, which was tender and covered with a nice cherry sauce. My daughter had the trout and loved it. Did I say the Escargot were amazing? :) Our waiter was very nice and attentive. He brought a chocolate mousse to her for dessert and said happy birthday. Nicely casual. Not stuffy. Highly recommend! As an aside, we went to an Orioles game afterwards and it was only a 15 minute Lyft ride from there.
Fantastic neighborhood bistro!
