One of my favorite restaurants in LA. The food is consistently great, the bar program is creative, the service is friendly, and the vibe is chill and fun (especially on the patio and at the bar). Unlike almost all restaurants serving small plates they do not make you order everything at once or rush out the food, so meals here feel luxuriously relaxed. You can't really go wrong with the menu but in particular do not miss the boquerones y mantequilla, which is a brilliant dish.

An elevated culinary experience with tapas in the already diversed atmosphere of Highland Park makes a mark into the realm of modern fine dining. There is a extensive size bar making some fine concotions. You would think that would be the focus. Like the bar the dining room is also narrow with 2x2 tables lined along the wall. The seating is smart, but may not accomodate large party. Kudos to the atmosphere designed for intimate dining, but an alternative illumination may be required to read the crafted menu. What you're paying here might be your focus. The menu is small plates with an emphasis on small. With the exception of the delectable Paella, much of the selection is designed for a 2 person taste. Come hungry and you might find yourself looking elsewhere once the tapas experience ends. Each and every dish is well crafted and balanced. There is an artform here designed to impress.

Tried the tasting menu at the recommendation of the waiter and it was absolutely worth it. Six courses including dessert. Well balanced flavors, good mix of preparation (grilled, fried, etc), and best octopus we’ve ever had. We were sat in the back next to the wine shelves, which was ideal for a quieter dining experience on the weekend. Seems like a good place to bring up to six people. Plenty of parking lots nearby as well.

I live in Highland Park and tried Otono for the first time yesterday. The vibe in the restaurant is amazing, cocktails and food were really great. I was disappointed by the service. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted, and I had to initiate that I had a reservation there. I had questions about the menu and had to flag down the server and after 2 questions, they walked away but I hadn't finished asking my questions. I had to flag them for water, etc. I really want Otono to do well and flourish in Highland Park b/c the food was really great. I hope the service can one day match the quality of the food.

A great Highland Park spot with a solid menu and excellent customer service. We ordered their charcuterie board and it was pretty good. My friends weren’t into liver but was surprised how this one was. Their potato balls were great & their octopus was probably the best entree. It was tender and very flavorful with a descent portion to feed three. The potato churros was the greatest potato dish I’ve ever had and it caught us all off guard because I thought it was going to be a sweet dish. It ended up being a really crispy with a soft center fry with solid ketchup and aioli. It’s definitely a must have at this spot. The seafood paella was also pretty good with a good amount of seafood. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience. Just a heads up they don’t have any of the popular soft drinks, so “Jack & Coke” or any mixed drinks like that aren’t available. They definitely make the most out of their space. Can feel a little cramped with tables real close together, but it works. I’d definitely come back here again and try their other menu items.
