New management last year is running this place into the ground. These new swing dance competitions should NOT be on Saturday nights! They need to figure out how to mix traditional country with Tejano together instead of picking one side over the other. They cater to one side and the twenty somethings. We were there since they opened but will not go back until they realize their DJ doesn’t know what the heck he’s doing. It’s a mess for sure! We now go to Mercer Hall. Way better atmosphere & the staff is sweet and old fashioned like country was meant to be.
$7 cover + $41 for two coronas and three club sodas, plus they don’t itemize the receipt, which is seriously sketchy. Tried a second time and it was STILL $40 for two beers somehow, still never was able to get a receipt from the bartenders. Dance instructors were poor fits for the experience level of the students and didn’t make modifications. It was one of the most poorly run classes I've been to. The female instructor is off-time a lot and they tend to prioritize flashy moves over basic technique. Music is at such a loud level you have to bring earplugs. You can't talk to your friends at all. We didn't know it was going to be that loud so we didn't bring earplugs. We left with our ears ringing and when I tried to talk in a normal voice, I was yelling. I've haven't left a place worried about perm hearing damage in decades. This is a great location for us and it has great dancers, many of whom we're friends with, but the insane beer prices + health risks of that loud of music aren't worth it. It makes me sad to think all my friends are dancing only a mile from my house and I have to drive to the North Mavericks in Cedar Park or Wild West to really enjoy myself.
Kid-friendliness: I think they let 18-year-olds in on Wednesday for line dancing
Went to college night on Thursday and had a blast
So I went down there to watch my wife dance and it was an amazing the way they set up the competition! The manager who I believe was named Hannah was so polite and helpful. The only negative thing was I paid for a table up on stage with was $60 and I had multiple times people come and stand in front of me as I was trying to watch the competition. My only request would be to have some type of wristband or something indicating you should be up on the stage.
Had a lot of fun with friends and people.
