10 years ago, they were arguably one of the best Izakaya in the area. Then COVID. We went twice, and the menu was significantly reduced, food was mediocre at best, service was awful, but gave them a pass due to possible pandemic issues. Finally revisited. Stood around for 10 min before anyone even talked to me. Then they wanted to give us a bad table, I had to assertively ask for a better table that they were saving in case they needed it later ( it was already 8:30 pm.) Then we went to open our wine as we had done many times in the past. They told us the corkage was now $40 which is fine, but then said our table of 4 could not open a second bottle. I said I would pay corkage and it went back and forth and then they agreed we could open two but had to pay $60 EACH. We walked. This place clearly never got the memo about Japanese restaurants and the expectation of omentenashi (hospitality.) If you want a good izakaya in the area, stick to Otafuku.
Got there around 9:30pm on Sunday evening since it showed that it closed at 10:30pm, and we were sent away since kitchen was closed. I saw later that reservations were required but there were plenty empty tables. Was just a bit of snooty vibe as we were sent away without good explanation with plenty of time before closing…
I have visited this restaurant many times before, and the food is so delicious that I crave it regularly. I would say it is the best Japanese izakaya-style restaurant I have ever been to. The staff are also very energetic and create a lively atmosphere. My favorite dishes are the sashimi, teppanyaki, and battera. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. The service is also excellent, and the staff are always happy to help you choose the perfect dishes and drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese izakaya experience.
Authentic Japanese izakaya!
We've spent a lot of money, and there's a lot of alcohol and food left, but the clerks give us the bill and the togo box, and forcefully pack the leftovers. They tell us to get out quickly. We never had a long time, and we still had extra orders. And it's too expensive
The best Izakaya restaurant ! Outstanding beer food!
Loved everything we ordered especially the sushi… so fresh. The chirashi bowl so flavoursome and the broth of agedashi tofu just right! A bit disappointed with the change of corkage rule and missing out on orders etc. still will go back
