Had an amazing time yesterday at Forsythia!! The vibes, food, service were all phenomenal. I went in a party of 4 and dined family style to try as many things as possible! We also had a treasure allergy in the group and the waitress was very attentive to that, which was extremely appreciated. We also split a bottle of red wine that was fantastic. My personal favorites were the suppli, off-menu polpetta, short rib agnolotti, carbonara, skirt steak, and the maritozzo but everything was to die for!!
Pasta was excellent as was the service. Favorite was the short rib agnolotti—as good as anything I have had in Italy. The 4 Roman classics were very good as well, particularly the Amatriciana.
Good vibes. Loved the ricotta and hot honey focaccia. Arugula and fennel salad was good too. Did not love the amatriciana. Just tasted like spaghetti and marinara
Might be the best Carbonara in NYC
There’s no doubt that Forsythia cranks out high quality dishes, but the quality doesn’t compensate for the small portions and underwhelming flavors. We ordered maiale, suppli, garganelli, cappelletti, and agnolotti. the I’m a bit disappointed that only 1 of the 5 dishes we ordered was a standout. I was particularly disappointed with the fried risotto, which recently went viral on Instagram for its oozing cheese. The risotto relied heavily on the anchovy to bring out flavor in a dish that was overall still underwhelming. While the short rib and duck agnolotti was good enough to order two, I don’t think the agnolotti alone would draw me back to the venue. Furthermore, while the staff were great and the overall ambiance was cute, the area I was seated (in the corner by the window) was intermittently interrupted by blowing steam, which was a bit concerning.
I had heard amazing things about their food, so made a reservation on Resy. My plans changed and I emailed their reservations desk 11.5 hours prior to the reservation time. They still charged me $100 for being within the 12-hour cancel window. Will never go here.
Server was obviously unhappy that we only ordered a light dinner. He forgot to serve a drink, then forced a large tip on our bill. As well, carbonara was very undercooked. We were jammed into back of restaurant with plants hitting our heads. We had an unpleasant experience and do not recommend this establishment.
