I used to enjoy coming here, but I'm really tired of certain aspects of it now. I have been coming to this Flour since ~2008 and always enjoyed the fact that it was a step up from the other places in Central Square. And it's true, many things on the menu and from the bakery are pretty good. But one enduring characteristic is that the service is desperately slow given the number of staff they have on hand. Example: it took waiting over 10 minutes in line to buy a slice of cake and a cookie. The cashier takes your order and then you stand and wait for someone else to hand your order (which she fumbled and it ended up falling on the ground). The screw up orders frequently and you'll end up waiting for something that has been sitting on the countertop the whole time but they didn't call your name. It's just so terribly badly disorganized that I couldn't be bothered going back except my son likes it. The atmosphere is usually crowded and not particularly nice to sit in. The food has decreased in quality, though the bakery is reasonably consistent. Sadly, the one constant for Flour's entire existence has been how surprisingly frustratingly slow the service is.
Nice bakery and coffee shop near MIT. Stopped by while taking the kids to a weekend class. Was pretty busy around 11am but got a coffee and tea without waiting more than a few minutes.
Red hair cashier was not friendly and sort of rude. To go latte order was very slow.
Super delicious everything!
Absolutely wonderful. Strongly recommended to go early for lunch or to order online. Dietary restrictions: Difficult to believe this sandwich is vegan.
I purchased 6 different bakery. They gave me a box which was fully closed. Because I was traveling in Boston I did not open the box to double check if they honestly closed with 6 bakery. When I went back hotel and open the box, it was so disappointing that I just could not trust people. They missed Ham and Cheese croissant, the most expensive one. When you visit Flour and they give you a fully closed box, please double check it. People lie and cheat.... What a shame!
Update: the cafe responded about as well as you could ask for, with a full apology and welcome back and trained their employees appropriately. It’s nice to see places care and make a change. The food here is excellent, so we are really glad to be able to return to our regular place. Not trans friendly. It would be very hard to come back here after this. My girlfriend waited for half an hour while they called out “Christopher.” She finally asked what name they used, and was it a girl’s name? The cashiers said yeah, I got your name, I put you in as Kristoff. (Her name is Crystal.) She said no, that’s a boy’s name, you misgendered me. The response: well is all your food there? …..THAT’s your response to being told you have deeply insulted and hurt someone? (Also all the food was not there and she had to wait longer for the rest of it. A quick apology for the missing item, no apology at all for misgendering. No effort at all to acknowledge the mistake, or to make anything right. SMH. Come on. It’s 2024. Catch up.
