Urban, laidback, cool, relaxed restaurant with exellent food and wine. Price/value and Michelin star a bit off, but Hey thats New York for you :-)
The food is very good but, while I don't want to say it was overpriced, it is very expensive for the portions served. The restaurant is charming but the seating is quite tight. We probably made a mistake in letting the waiter know - before it was time to pay - that we would be using a gift card that we had gotten recently, but the service we received was (very) indifferent at best. We seem to have had the same server that "Vancouverite 808" describes in an earlier review.
The service was shockingly bad - food is good but their approach to servicing us was beyond arrogant. When we arrived we were very excited, as we had heard great things. That night, our expectations were definitely the most rewarding as the service quickly made it abundantly clear that this restaurant and its guests are meant for serving the the kitchen and not the other way around - waiters and sommelier may have a part to play, but certainly not to integrate and enable any part of this journey. An example: there are plenty of nice dishes that we would love to sample, and when we mentioned that we would love to order some dishes to get us started and later reassess where our appetites and curiosity would then lead us, and then order some more, we were sourly instructed that once the chefs start pumping out our tickets, that’s it - no add-ons or additional dishes can be served. Unfortunately there was almost no connection between waiters, sommelier and the kitchen as our pre-dinner drinks were served later than the dinner… this total disconnect was beautifully repeated: when we politely asked them to cancel the bottle of wine we had ordered more than an hour back and when they were bringing in the third serving, the sommelier said that it was not possible as she had already opened the wine. She was - however - not able to explain where the wine was as nobody had taken the initiative to bring it to our table. This, along with a complete disregard for our table left us utter disappointed the last night in the city.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere here. A small restaurant that's quite lively and certainly packs people in. We were basically on top of each other - but it was still nice. The food here was just ok. Some of the dishes were a hit. The oysters and the ricotta dumplings were good. But the rest were just ok and oh so salty. The sauce overpowered the wagyu. Even after sharing that the food was too salty, the dessert came out and was just as salty (there was salt sprinkled on top of the chocolate cake). For a Michelin star, I'd expect more consistency in seasoning.
