Xiao Long Bao

Updated in 2024: 3 years ago I left a glowing review and I'm sad that after multiple times in the past few months/year I feel inclined to update my review from 5 stars to 1. I don't expect amazing or even standard service at these joints. I speak the language and know the culture but you can only be purposely rude so many times before you lose a customer. I'm sad to say, this is the case and I can't put up with the purposefully rude attitude. The other thing that broke the camels back, I ordered a few items and the lady put everything in small plastic bags. When I asked for a small container so my kids can use it as a plate to eat, she wanted to charge me for the container... It's annoying because she could have just put all the items in the small container instead of 4 separate small bags. So that's it, my chapter here is done. Decent dim sum but I'll take my business elsewhere. 2021 review: This is my go to dim sum spot! It's gotten very busy and no longer a hole in the wall over the years.

The dumplings and baos here are delicious. Great assortment. Remember to bring cash

BEWARE, the cashier workers aren’t honest, just hungry for the $$. Visa requires minimum $20 which I did and the lady asked for $6 more! They don’t give receipts so make sure you ask! I didn’t give any more $ than my original order!! I hope customers will catch up on the owners.

I love the Fried Shrimp Dumplings

Decent overall but the queue for the counter is disturbing and poorly controlled in this Covid era. Then there’s the cleanliness issue (too many red flags) plus there are no vegetarian options for steamed dumplings. Only thing they have is the green onion pancake which is swimming in g-d knows what oil. Horrible service, rude and belligerent staff try to hurry you as if you’re in a free soup kitchen. Their cash only policy is beyond irritating and is another reason I’m never coming back. It used to be that you could use a card for purchases over $10. Now all of a sudden it’s $20! Plus there are no reliable ATMs nearby, never mind how impractical it is to try and withdraw cash for this one place when you’re dealing with morning traffic and a counter service spot with a not very clean kitchen and unfriendly staff. I’m done with this place

despite getting my order wrong, this was a nice little spot to get tasty lunch for a cheap price! my boyfriend and i stopped here in hopes of trying soup dumplings, but i guess the server misheard me and gave us both regular dumplings. i was bummed because soup dumplings were what we came for, but i was also pleasantly surprised when i tasted them. very delicious and they give you a very good amount for the price (about 12 or so for $5-6) i’d say definitely stop here for food, but make sure they get your order right!!!

Xiao Long Bao is a take-out only dim sum restaurant. No indoor dining. We stand on the sidewalk and eat in front of the restaurant anyways, so no biggie. The other two dim sum take-out restaurants on Clement are more busy. So, if you are in a hurry, go here. The other two places are better, but not worth me waiting another 15 minutes. Our favorite items here are the fried crab meat dim sum and their crispy shrimp egg rolls. Both are filled to the brim. The beef pancakes are good if they are fresh. We came at noon-ish and the pancake wasn't crispy anymore. Regardless, I do recommend this establishment to our community.
