---------------------------------------------------------------- WENN MAN SCHON MAL IN CHINATOWN UNTERWEGS IST... ... dann hat gibt immer noch einen zum Draufsetzen. Hat mir richtig gut gefallen, zumal ich ja nun wirklich dafür bekannt bin, gern asiatisch zu essen. Nach dem "Kurzbesuch" bei "Frau Wong" hatte ich noch Hunger und wir haben dann einen anderen Laden aufgesucht, das "Wo Hop". Ein Laden, der wohl nicht nur die die "New York Times" Aufmerksamkeit gezogen hat, mittlerweile auch von Touristen entdeckt wird und der wohl auch in einer (mir nicht bekannten) Fernsehserie auftauchte. Im tiefsten Chinatown (in der Mottstreet) im Keller gelegen ein sagen wir mal "nicht renovierter" und in die Jahre (vermutlich Jahrzehnte) gekommene Laden. Das Mobiliar ähm... öhm... es geht halt nichts über Stühle, die durch was auch immer noch zusammengehalten werden, so eine richtige liebenswerte Kaschemme, die auch mit ziemlicher Sicherheit ihre Fans hat. Einmal abgesehen von den wirklich guten Preisen (incl. Getränken haben wir zu zweit für 35 Dollar gespeist) sind die Portionen atemberaubend, gut und allesamt frisch. Und bei dem Durchlauf an Gästen wird auch nichts alt. Ich habe selten so gute (obendrein extrem reichhaltig gefüllte) und Dumplings gegessen. Also zwei Portionen davon für zwei, reicht eigentlich schon für sich. Und leider habe ich nicht eines meiner Lieblingsgerichte (General Tsoes Chicken) auf der Karte entdeckt und bekam es erst mit, als der Kellner es an einen Nachbartisch brachte. Als Kuriosum entdeckte ich das Ehepaar neben uns, wo ich auch mal bei der Menge auf dem Tisch direkt frage, ob sie noch Gäste erwartet. Ich kann mich nicht in meinem Leben daran erinnern, das zwei Personen solche Mengen bestellt und auf einem Tisch hatten. Unglaublich. Gottseidank konnte ich es bildlich festhalten. Alles in allem... ein Geheimtipp, der leider keiner mehr ist und wenn man einmal einen Tisch hat, dann hat man Glück. Heiko Timm und ich empfehlen Tisch Nummer 5. Und wer da einmal die Dollar-Noten gespickte Wand einmal näher betrachten mag, der wird nun auch einen Schein von uns beiden feststellen, wo wir natürlich seine Frau Ruth und Aggie Davis lieb grüßen. - Ein Extra-Dollarschein für Claudia Donners folgt natürlich selbstredend. Was für eine tolle Location, zu der mir übrigens noch eine kleine Geschichte von einem Freund erzählt wurde. Der kannte den Laden auch... es gab mal zwei Brüder, die sich zerstritten hatten und deshalb dieses "Wo Hop" im gleichen Haus einmal im Keller als das eine und einmal oben als das andere Restaurant eröffneten. Zumindest das unten im Keller gelegene Restaurant ist noch da. Geschichten, die sich wirklich kein Drehbuchautor hätte besser ausdenken können.

Well as always there is a wait to get into the restaurant that is fine If you have the patience for that lol anyway I have been coming to wo hop for 15 years or so ! The food always good ! However the last visit I had the sweet and sour chicken One of my favorite dishes ! It tasted like old Chicken really dry and cold and I use to love there egg rolls it was so Disappoint it didn’t taste the same and it was really cold In The center of the egg roll ! Very disappointed ! I’m never coming back big big disappointment !

Super tasty food and fun atmosphere at a great price. Came back after not making it here for over a decade. Didnt disappoint!!!

Great authentic Chinese cuisine in the basement of China Town. Great food.
