I absolutely love this place, first time visiting...Chef Jon and Ms Krystle are the best ever....
Unique. Special. Nostalgic. This is, without a single doubt in my mind, the best spot to get Sunday dinner in the entirety of the birmingham metro. A quaint, cozy little bar and restaurant in mountain Brook pulled off the unthinkable: a SINGLE menu item offer during dinner. And it doesn’t disappoint. Well, it does disappoint… bc eventually you’ve eaten all of it and you’ll wish there was more. The chef has devised a “one special dish” on Sunday nights exclusive, where he makes only one dish…. And the best way I can describe it is “nostalgia for dinner”. We paired it perfectly with a cab blend that didn’t just work with the pot roast and veggies, but also with the home made blueberry open faced cobbler that was the perfect amount to share for 2. Dinner was delicious and perfectly cooked, reminding me of the truest form of Alabama home cooking. Comforting, inviting, and extremely flavorful. My only regret was that I simply didn’t have enough stomach room for a second order. It was that good. According to the restaurant, each Sunday will be a new, uniquely crafted dish by chef. Exclusively one dish for dinner from 5 to close, only. If you want something truly unique, special, and delicious, I can’t suggest this more vehemently. However, I would STRONGLY suggest a reservation, regardless of party size as their space is limited and waiting for this meal, watching everyone eat before you, is not recommended, as the room will fill with the incredible smell of your childhood kitchen, making you wish you had prepared for the evening more efficiently. There IS a backside patio, but alas it is winter, and who knows what the temperature will be right now. So, plan accordingly. My girlfriend and I have finally found an amazing Sunday evening place to have dinner…. But who would even call it dinner? No, this isn’t dinner. This is a childhood meal as an adult, and we couldn’t have loved it more.
The service, food, drinks and atmosphere at Watkins are amazing. The burger is perfectly cooked, its our favorite in Birmingham. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Will be back.
It took forever and the steak came out raw. The side of grits for $5 was a joke as well. Not coming back.
I was in town today, and was looking for a neat place to have a bourbon and some brunch, and I landed on this place. Now added to my favorite places in Birmingham. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff. It’s a very small place, but comes across as cozy, not cramped. I felt immediately welcome and comfortable. I sat down at the bar and met Krystal (sorry if I spelled it wrong), who was just an absolute delight. I asked her to recommend a bourbon, and after a few questions about my preferences, she found the PERFECT recommendation from their broad selection of whiskeys. I sipped on my whiskey and ended up ordering their brunch breakfast sandwich (forget the name), which not only was a great meal on its own, but paired wonderfully well with my bourbon. I stayed for an hour or two, and had an incredible time talking with Krystal and some regulars at the bar. Tried a few whiskeys, and all were incredible. I hope to go back for dinner sometime soon. I can’t recommend this place enough.
Small intimate place with Marci Gras- like music playing, good service, great BRUNCH. My mom and I enjoyed the egg’s Benedict over fried green tomatoes topped with avocado and bacon. The chef made sure we were happy. The server was polite. We stumbled across this bc Another Cracked E** had an hour wait. I highly recommend!
