I'm a client of this supermarket since 2018 local store at byres road , I go several times a week and have a good experience each time. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the supermarket is clean and generally well stocked.

They have everything. Amazing bakery. Edit: I have been shopping from this branch for 3 years, however recently I placed couple of orders online. I am shocked of how gross the veg and fruit the picked for me. I wasn’t able to leave the house I even ordered flowers and they picked older ones for me. They seem to give online orders the things they are about to dump!!! I am disappointed as I always thought they care about their customers!!!

The store is far too small to accommodate the number of people who stand at the narrowest places having a chat as if the long lost friends haven't been seen for years. Some trolleys still in use run sideways.

I had a parcel delivered to this store and the manager opened my parcel. When I asked why my parcel was opened, I was given reasons that did not make sense (I.e. that they opened it because it could be a maintenance worker’s, from the head office or that they simply do not accept parcels from DPD). Nonetheless, it is ILLEGAL to open other people’s parcels. And regardless of who the parcel belongs to, a store manager should not be opening other peoples belongings without their permission. They made no efforts in confirming whether this parcel belonged to one of their staff vs. the general public. I would expect this behaviour from the Postal Service/Immigration, but not from a grocery store as the necessary safety checks would have already been done. I contacted Waitrose’s Head Office and they agree with me that the manager’s actions were unacceptable and that my personal property should not have been opened. I had several parcels delivered to this store by DPD in the past, and this has never happened. Now my parcel’s been compromised and I have grounds for legal action. EDIT: This parcel was not unidentified as it had my details on it, not to mention the details from the company that sent it. The parcel was sent to the store and was accepted by the manager (I have photo proof from the delivery company). The store does not have the right to open other people’s mail, even if it was delivered to the wrong recipient. The reasoning for opening my parcel is not a reasonable excuse. If my marked parcel had “security concerns” then every parcel the store receives has security concerns and the manager would be opening them all. Contrary to the below response, this Waitrose branch does accept deliveries as I’ve collected deliveries from them in the past and have seen numerous people from the general public also picking up their deliveries. I am disappointed in Waitrose’s investigation process as it is completely one-sided and only relies on the manager’s point of view. Of course he will defend his actions even if they’re wrong. Below copied from legislation.gov.uk: Interfering with the mail: general. (1)A person commits an offence if, without reasonable excuse, he— (a)intentionally delays or opens a postal packet in the course of its transmission by post, or (b)intentionally opens a mail-bag. (2)Subsections (2) to (5) of section 83 apply to subsection (1) above as they apply to subsection (1) of that section. (3)A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person’s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him. (4)Subsections (2) and (3) of section 83 (so far as they relate to the opening of postal packets) apply to subsection (3) above as they apply to subsection (1) of that section. (5)A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) or (3) shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
