Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar West Midtown

I have been to the College Park location, but this was my first time at the Midtown location. I went with coworkers. The service was amazing. Ross was super efficient and professional. He suggested items off the menu for several of our party members. The space is quite small, but quaint. It’s definitely not a space where more than one large party could eat. We had ten in our group and took up half of the indoor seating area. There are two large garage doors on the front that open up to the outdoor patio are. I loved that! Eating good food outside is nice. I had the fried chicken with greens and mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese was a bit dry on the top and tasted like it wasn’t the freshest, but it wasn’t horrible. I probably wouldn’t get it again. The greens were good and flavorful. My fried chicken was good too. Nothing to write home about, but good. I tasted the flavor of the glaze, but didn’t really taste any seasoning on the wings. They were also really small, but when I think of chickens walking around, I don’t picture them with huge wings on their bodies. There is parking next to the building. Whether it is free or not, I don’t know. We walked to the restaurant from our office. The restroom is gender neutral, but it was clean. Don’t expect the seat to be down because a man went before me and surprise surprise the seat was up when I went in to use the bathroom. The decor was beautiful. There are pictures and art on the walls. The music playing was not too loud and nothing profane. The server was nicely dressed and pleasant as can be. They did allow us to pay separately and we paid right at the table. They have a rewards program too. Sign up for that. We also learned they do karaoke during brunch. I came with colleagues from Korea with a desire to have authentic soul food. We were not disappointed. Tyrica took amazing care of us. Everything was outstanding: the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The appetizer sampler and cornbread muffins were delicious. We had After Church chicken, Friday dinner fish, New Years Day pork chops, and smothered chicken and pork chops. So good! It was a very memorable evening. Thank you Tyrica.

The shrimp & grits with salmon patties and mimosas are amazing. Khalfani is an amazing server.
