Hidden gem. Incredible spot!
Tommy's Mexican restaurant is an institution in SF, originally opened by Tommy Bermejo and his wife 50 years ago. Tommy's is now run by the energetic Julio Bermejo, a great host and one of the friendliest people you will meet in the bar industry. He is the world ambassador of tequila thanks to is amazing knowledge of the agave-based spirit. Start off with a Tommy's Margarita (2 oz Tequila, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup cut with 0.5 oz water). Then, let Julio and his senior bartender Greidy guide you through the world's largest collection of tequilas. Tommy's has some amazing Mexican food. I suggest the carne asada, the number one choice of Julio's uncle. Perhaps the most amazing part of the experience of sitting up at the bar at Tommy's is how you will instantly become friends with everyone there: I've had the great pleasure of meeting cool people like Kern, Elizabeth, Cecilia, Cristian, Robert and so many others. Tommy's is my number one recommendation in San Francisco and perhaps in the United States.
Americanized Mexican food; small portions, too bland, way too expensive. So much for trying to patronize old established businesses.
Always a good meal, drinks and great service.
Tommy's is the best margaritas in the city!! Go see Grady!! No body better!!! Yummy!!!
This place was way over hyped up in a big way. I thought I was going underdressed, but when I walked in, I was surprised in a big way. The service was top-notch, but the food was horrible. Coming from a family of home cooked Mexican food, I was very disappointed. I went to try the Tommy's Margaritas, which was way overhyped as well. Who decided that this margarita was the best margarita in San Francisco? Maybe I just don't have a fancy pallet. For it being so famous I just expected more. This place needs some TLC
An absolutely classic SF restaurant. We loved the beef fajitas, yum!!!!
