If you love karaoke, you'll love the Lamplighter. The crowd is your biggest fan here. Everyone sings along with you and creates such a hype when you get up to sing.
I ordered a Moscow mule with Tito’s, $10. Went back and ordered the exact same thing 15 mins later, was told $11. Asked why it wasn’t $10, bartender said fine whatever, $10. Super weird, never had something like that happen. Cash bar with no receipts definitely is sketchy.
I'd never been to this spot before but it's been recommended to me a lot- a group of friends and I decided to go on a Wednesday night to celebrate my birthday and it was perfect! The bartender and the karaoke host were so friendly. I saw a lot of negative reviews about the karaoke DJs in particular but Heaven was awesome! The whole crowd was super fun and the vibe was exactly what we were looking for. We will be back!!!
Great place cash only but the karaoke was a lot of fun cool stage as well great atmosphere
Money talks, after more than 2 hrs of waiting to get on the Mic at karaoke, nada. What's worse, embarrassing to see someone who signed up after I did get on the mic ( he signed up literally right after me ). Imagine having that happen if you were waiting for a table at a restaurant? The DJ said to me, " you have to understand, I'm getting handed $20, $40". I gave him $10 before I'd known that, which that's a lot even for a karaoke DJ. Usually a band I'd tip that, wow. What's the point in having a list to sign up on of you're not going to follow it, same for basic karaoke standards. We don't do this in LB, you'll get on the mic definitely if you tip that. Shocking. Never going back, $40 you could see a World class DJ or a Lyft home from seeing one. Actually, it's more like $45 ( you add the $5 cover ).
Consider one of the Best Dive Karaoke Bars in San Diego, the Lamplighter is a bar like no other. Opening at 6:00 AM to provide service for those over night late shifters, karaoke starting 9:00 PM, & ending services at 2:00 AM just to start all over in 4 hours. The Lamplighter is the local neighborhood bar that people from other neighborhoods talk about .
It's like the dive bar upgraded. Went for some evening cocktails with friends and the place went from cozy old school dive bar to karaoke show with lights and great sound. The DJ was great and kept the crowd moving. They seem to have really invested in the joint while maintaining it's dive bar vibes. A community treasure.
Terrible place. They don’t let people in from overseas. Worst bar experience of my life.
