The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - York Street

Unfortunately had a subpar Keg experience tonight at the York St. location; it was a birthday dinner to boot. Since we arrived 30 min prior to our reservation, we gladly went to the bar to have a drink while we waited for our table to be ready. The wine was great, the bartenders were great, however our water glasses smelled like mildew. OK, that's fine, whatever. My wife had to go back to the front to confirm whether our table was ready, as 18 min had passed beyond our reservation time, and nobody came to inform us and our buzzer hadn't gone off. The wife confirmed that our table was indeed ready, and then a young gentleman came to the bar to escort us to the table. I asked if he had a tray so that we didn't have to carry our two glasses of wine and decanter ourselves. That's common sense stuff. He looked at me with a blank stare, so I just let it go; walked through the restaurant with wine and decanter in hand. 1st star reduced. Kate was our server, and she was fine throughout the night. Unfortunately, my 18oz prime rib came out medium well to well done, when I ordered it medium. Kate was great about it and looped in the manager on duty, Chris. He came to personally acknowledge and address the overcooked cut, and about 10 min later, he came back with a new plate with a new slice of prime rib (which was actually also more on the medium well side, but I refrained from mentioning it the second time around, to avoid more confusion). I did appreciate them promptly addressing the initial mistake. While Chris was indeed pleasant, he dropped the ball when he tried to educate me on how prime rib is prepared and what to say in the future if I want it medium. Wrong audience; I literally dine at the Keg on Leslie once a week, and I'm well aware as to what a medium looks like. Moreover, the onus isn't on the diner to elaborately explain to staff how to make sure it comes out medium. That whole exchange was pointless and frankly distasteful. It's a steakhouse - medium is medium. Full stop. 2nd star reduced. When the bill came, I noticed the prime rib was still on there. All good, paid the bill. That said, I was curious though, as in the past, anytime the Keg has ever gotten preparedness or anything wrong (which is few & far between), they've always maintained a standard to either take care of the cut in question, or a round of drinks, etc. I shared the same with Chris on my way out and he said they used their "discretion," but that he'd be happy to adjust the bill, albeit after-the-fact. 3rd star reduced. It's not about the $52, it's a matter of principle. If there are major hiccups in a diner's experience, own it to the highest standard. Their "discretion" tonight missed the mark. I expect better. Stick to the Keg Mansion, Esplanade, or Leslie (North York) locations to avoid poor discretion. I am keen to see if management will exercise the appropriate discretion in dispositioning this review...

The best dinner out! The chef prepared my steak exactly as I wanted (well done, Chicago char) , and still tender and juicy. Atmosphere and dining room was very inviting and friendly I highly recommend this location.

Limited menu with good service

It's The Keg. Ordered the fillet mignon medium well. It came wrapped in bacon. Maybe my fault for ordering medium well, but it felt over cooked except a small part in the centre. It was also too salty.

We were there or a conference and they were very accommodating. We had reservations for 2 but had to change to 6 at the last minute. Food was excellent, server was good and friendly. We were not rushed through our meal. Overall a very good experience! Highly recommended!

The Keg is the only place I would order a steak, never disappoints. A bit pricey but worth a treat.
