The Green Mill

If you like history and jazz bars, this has to be on your list of must-visit places in Chicago. It has been around for more than 115 years, and walking in to the Green Mill feels like time traveling. During the Prohibition Era the Green Mill was partially owned by Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn...meaning the bar was under the control of Al Capone, who was McGurn's crime boss. More than ten movies have had the Green Mill features in it. Today jazz is still alive and well as though it were the 1920s. The drinks are good. The staff is friendly. You'll enjoy it. I promise.

Understated, old style jazz bar with a great intimate atmosphere. Drinks were affordable and the service was very good.

It's like sitting inside a museum. Life changing night.

Went last night for the show. The door guy was incredibly nice and cool. The band was cool. It was packed. We ordered two cocktails, they were both great. Ordered the second round as the band started up again and my old fashioned tasted watered down. I complained to the bartender and he was upset telling us it was a old fashioned. He had another bartender make me one and it was the same watered down drink. The other drink was also watered down. I won't be going back. Both bartenders were gaslighting me to think It was ok.

I met up with an old friend to talk and listen to music. I was satisfied with the organist and the songs he played, but the real standout was the Abigail Riccards Quintet. Specifically, her silky voice and jokes. That was one of the better jazz bands I had seen in some time and it makes sense why the Green Mill has the reputation it does.

everyone should see this place! The history and vibe are unmatched!
