Food exellent hospitality exellent and very clean environment they have all the spanish food I grew up eating
I Enjoyed an amazing lunch today at The Freakin Rican with my husband and brother. The wait was short, super fun and chill vibe and the food was authentic, fresh, generous servings, and absolutely delicious! We enjoyed a feast of bacalaitos, empanadas, sirullitos, sweet slaw, maduros, Cuban sandwich, fried whole snapper (perfectly cooked) no easy task. Crunchy on the outside moist inside, arroz con gandules, white rice with black and pink beans, flan, budin (bread pudding) So good not overly sweet, banana shake, delicious Cafe con Leche from Puerto Rico. Believe me when I tell you this is a gem of a restaurant and you need to get there now! You can taste the freshness and see the care Derrick takes to beautifully plate each dish. Enjoy! Oh! and we had tons of leftovers! Vegetarian options: Rice, beans, salads, slaw, plantains, shakes, Seafood and more. Extremely helpful and accommodating servers. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free, vegetarian etc. Parking: We parked on the street about a block away. Safe and clean neighborhood. Kid-friendliness: High chairs available. Kid friendly options. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs. Movable chairs.
The food never disappoints.... love the food. Shrimp Trifongo is the best, along with the alcapurrias(I'm sure I spelled that wrong). Service was great as well, very attentive. Will be eating here forever.
Cute, cozy, quaint, clean atmosphere. Small but comfortable. The food was good! The waiter and staff were very nice, friendly and accommodating, and freshened up our meal (heat)! I had the Thursday 'lunch special' which was pastalon with white rice & red beans and a salad for an affordable price. Very flavorful! I enjoyed it! I purchased a "frozen" yuca chicken pastele and a 2-piece fried chicken with french fries to go. I know they're delicious too!
I loved everything about it. The atmosphere, decorations, music. The food was great along with the staff.
The food is amazing. The Alcapurrias are great. You get meat with every bite. The pasteles are the best. This is the way everyone's grandmother makes it. The mofongo is probably one of the best I've had in NYC. Other restaurants, the mofongo is dry by the time you've eaten half of it. Not at The Freakin Rican. They even have their own hot sauce. Great place to eat if you're looking for authentic Puerto Rican food.
The mofongo transported me back to Puerto Rico. Amazing steak also. They had a special for the night that the waitress was pushing which wasn't great but overall the food was amazing.
I was really disappointed with the food. It was salty. The waiter even forgot part of our order. The place is very tiny and the wait staff not friendly. The owner was cool. I hope it gets better because I do want him to succeed.
