The Capital Grille

It was wonderful

The experience I had at this Memphis location was far from pleasant. Let's start with Capital Grille has been one of my favorite restaurants all across the world however this night was a nightmare for me and my cousin. I had a long frustrating day due to my vehicle being stolen this day so I decide to go to one of my favorite places to relief some stress . We sat at the bar and a Caucasian guy was our waiter. The waiter was acting a little inappropriate talking with some I assume friends at the bar about staying in the hood and talking about gang related activities which I was very shocked with that behavior at a fine dine restaurant. We received our bill and as the waiter was gone with our cards and cash we noticed some friends sitting close by so we got up and mingled for about 2-3 mins upon our return to the bar to sign my receipt and leave tip the bar tender was walking towards us looking very aggressive and shoved my cousin change in her hand saying "you could have kept this and this is unacceptable. We didn't understand because the tip that we were going to leave he didn't give us a chance to leave. I was totally lost for words at this point I begin to cry. Soon as we left I called the restaurant to inform the manger of this behavior however my name and number was record and I never heard anything back. I have never been treated this way in my life. Don't go here and spend hundreds of dollars to get treated like dirt.

I ate here with my cousin after she had a long frustrating day due to her car getting stolen. This is the first time we have experienced this kind of service from Capital grille. This once was my favorite place to dine. We sat at the bar and the Caucasian stocky guy with dark hair was our server. Upon receiving my bill we seen friends dining in another area at the bar. My cousin had gotten up and the bar tender handed me her card because she forgot her card. I had paid for my food with cash. The change I received back I left in the folder. I got up from the bar and grabbed my phone and purse to speak to friends in the bar area. Upon returning back to the bar the bar tender was meeting us on our walk back. He handed me the money that was left from my $100 bill and said “you could’ve kept this, this is unacceptable” … we were so confused because we were headed back to the bar to ask if he accepted Zelle, Apple Pay, or cash app. I wanted to make sure my cousin had gotten her card back and for him to leave the bar to chase us down to say what he said was extremely unacceptable. I was in such disbelief because I was honestly headed back to tip him more from Apple Pay etc. Regardless of what tip was left this is disgusting. I called to report this to the manager on duty and he took our names and numbers and stated that he would give us a call back. However this happened in December and still no call. I will never eat at this place ever again. I will take my money elsewhere.

The service was excellent the bread basket was great. With that said, the main courses were not good. I ordered the tomahawk veal steak ($70), and it was quite chewy and the sauce over-powered the taste of the meat. The lobster bisque had a strong/fishy taste as well. The potatoes au gratin was bland and not tasty at all. We also ordered a 10 ounce filet ($50), and it was ok but had a slight liver taste to it. We spent $215 with tip and it was not worth it. Capital Grille in Memphis is very overpriced for food that was just fair at best.

Everything was AMAZING!! We started off with Oysters on the half shell and Lobster Bisque. The oysters were so fresh and sweet. The bisque made us close our eyes to savor the flavor. The Chilean Sea Bass in Miso Butter was so succulent and flakey and full of flavor. The Au Gratin Potatos were rich, creamy, and delicious. We topped it off with the Flourless Espresso Cake and Capital Grille Cheesecake with Champagne. This was a birthday celebration, and everything was perfect. The ambiance, the service, the food and drink, absolutely nothing could have been better.

Always excellent, always pricey, but the food and service are excellent
