First time guest here at The Abbey on Butler Street. Quite a lovely and elegant place. It has a very retro/vintage vibe that I absolutely loved. The detail throughout the establishment is quite a sight to behold. We were seated at the bar, the Bloody Mary is a bit on the spicy side which I loved! Ordered fish and chips which was cooked perfectly. The addition of truffle to the ketchup and tartar was on point!
Good courteous service but they forgot our appetizer. The prices are out of line. For example I got a burger which was good but it was $28 and more for fries!! I can get the same thing in a dozen other places for $14-$18
Very unique dining experience. i highly recommend the coffee bar! & will return to try breakfast. Dinner entrees were so-so.
Food was bland, coffee tasted burnt, and service was slow
We mistakenly sat in the “dinner only “ area, and were hustled getting coffee. But it was such a lovely patio, I ordered a salad. Very generous serving, fresh ingredients, beautifully plated. Will go back for sure.
It's a really cool building/spot. Courtyard is also cool. I really, really like the spot and the little stage/bar inside, and the coziness of the coffee shop. All awesome. However, there are a lot of negatives. First, the owner has opposed other local restaurants (food hall) from opening due to parking regs, when the fact is that the Abbey is the single cause of all traffic issues in this area. That is due to the clientele being mostly non-local, folks from the suburbs that are often driving huge cars/trucks and struggle to parallel park on Butler. Yes, this is the crowd. It's not a local spot. Second, the food is very average. Almost surprisingly so. The food is just underwhelming. Third, for a place called the Abbey you'd think there would be a selection of Belgian beers and that sort of theme. Nope. Fourth, the crowd. I don't know what about this place attracts every SUV from Fox Chapel , but it's a lot to handle just because they struggle so much with their cars. There are always angry folks circling the block at 50mph looking for parking, double parking, etc. They're not kind to the neighborhood, they come here and get drunk and speed on our 25mph roads.
In my opinion The Abbey is one of the most underrated restaurants in Pittsburgh. Their specials are always great.
Hands down one of the best coffee shops I’ve been in. Classic Irish coffee house and pub vibes. There is also a restaurant with a huge drink menu. Can’t wait to go back. Also coffee drinks came in glass cups which was a personal favorite in for me
