- If you're thinking of going here to eat, you have to be careful about price. They can put extra drinks or food in your receipt.

'Twas a late afternoon eat. It was a Sunday. We were hangry. Just two lovers with a hankering for a diner at 4pm but both Allston Diner & Steve's Kitchen were closed. We walked about a mile in the sweltering summer sun with empty stomachs. I looked up Tavern In The Square's menu. We went in for the Margherita Pizza but to our dismay their menu had recently changed. Luckily, our waitress Colleen was kind and understood our needs. She suggested the Pesto Pizza. We ordered a side of the House Fries. It. Was. Divine. The Pizza was drowning in extra virgin olive oil and we were floating in the flavors. The house fries were salted perfectly. Colleen knew more than most in regards to beers. She enabled me with tastes of The Infinite Jest (IPA Such good), Weihenstephaner Dunkleweiss (sweet wheat), and Blue Point Light Ale, an ale from my love's hometown. I went with the Blue Point and left a $7 tip. I can't fully endorse the pizza because, we were at a camping trip level of hunger so anything could have pleased our palates but the fries were right. For a sunny summer day, The Tavern's large open window atmosphere was by far the nicest that Allston (rat city) could have offered.

+ huuuuge space + area for dancing and 2 bars and area for standing/chatting + no cover - gets super crowded and almost impossible to order - can get pretty messy/dirty and floor is sticky - music is a 50/50 on being actually danceable! Came here on a Saturday night, so that probably accounts for it being crowded. But there were drinks being spilled everywhere, the floor was wet, and the bar was completely packed and mostly with people standing around. The drinks are fairly priced though and the crowd vibe is very laid back and relaxing which is nice. No need for the fancy dress ups that usually happen at a club. There are a ton of TV's that will have a game on until about 11-12am and then it switches to music videos. However, the MV's do not match the songs that are playing which is strange. I've gotten super excited by the MV screen only to find that my ears have been deceived! LIES. It's a mix of 00's and current R&B and some various mash ups. There was also a bit of those weird melodies that you can't really jive to at all so everyone just kind of awkwardly sways. Either way, TITS (ha!) isn't your typical high-end club, but it's a chill place for a night out in the Allston/Brookline area that won't break the bank, so A-OK!

***I wore straight leg jeans, I'm 5'10, 206 lbs, the jeans I had on were a 36 waist and 34 length, they said the cut of my jeans were not allowed, once I said they were straight legged closer to skinny leg they let me in... While inside I wore a baseball cap then turned it backwards and a bouncer said I could only wear my cap facing forward... I'll never go here, the drinks were decent and music was mediocre I went on a Saturday night***

-------------------------------------CROOKS! ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------CROOKS!--------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------CROOKS!------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------DISHONEST!----------------------------------------------------------- --------------LETS JUST SAY - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENT AFTER YOU EAT THERE - THEY ADD ON THEIR OWN TIP --------------- I USE to like this place - until now. Never going back again. EVER.] First of all, they've really gone low quality food wise. The brunch use to be good. Now its McDonalds quality. NASTY. GREASY. COLD. NEVER REFILLED. But, main point is, they're dishonest and even WORSE the manager KNOWS it! We went for brunch - Brunch is brunch - and I'm a really good tipper - and when it's brunch you don't tip 20%. You brought water. I was waitresses for a long, long time and busted my butt running around, dealing with crappy customers, carrying massive trays, garnishing everything, running up massive sets of stairs with plates of food - even with a broken arm! and never ever expected 20% on brunch. Brunch is easy compared to other days. Regardless, I AM A GOOD TIPPER! So, we tipped the waitress a little over 15% - about $17. Well, unlike a lot of drunk college kids who don't check their statements, we do. The waitress took it upon herself to add on an extra $10 to her tip, making it $27 on a $100 bill. We have the money, $10 is not the point - it's the point that they're crooks. SO.... We call. The manager PAUL - his name was PAUL - called back, left a message. PAUL openly admitted it on the message saying "WELL, YOU DID ONLY LEAVE HER A $17 TIP" (which was still over 15%) Well PAUL, thank you for supporting and encouraging your waitresses to add on to their tips. What a great manager, PAUL. So, PAUL said he would refund the $10. Two weeks later, never did. AGAIN- its not the $10, thats a drop in the bucket - its the fact that they're crooks, the waitress took it upon herself to add on her own tip and PAUL admitted it on the message he left, sounding proud of his crooked ways. If PAUL had taken a different approach, actually refunded the stupid $10, or took the complaint seriously that would be that, end of story. But he didn't. SO... BETTER BUSINESS BUEREAU here we come! And we will be going way over Pauls head, to his manager and owner if need be. His snide little tone and support of his theif of a waitress is not sitting well. Any reputable restaurant would fire a waitress for that in a second. Not PAUL... -------------------------------CROOKS!-------------------------------------------------------------

(score 1-100) - 70 Affectionately know as Tits...this bar n a town of with allot of great college bars, this has to be one of the best. Huge large space divided essential into two rooms. The prices are very reasonable for something within 15 minutes of Boston. I had a Stella Tall and bought 3 mixed drinks for my friends and the total bar tab was 28 dollars. For some people that is high for most in Boston that is a deal. I would be paying north of 40 in the backbay bars. We had the buffalo chicken pizza and it was around 10 bucks, very well done and spicy! The place gets packed by the college crowd and forms a line during prime weekend nights. Great place for cheap decent eats and reasonable booze. I have friends that live in the area and this is the neighborhood place that they always choose to get a drink.

"only unsuccessful bars charge a cover," were the words of the bouncer. This bar is an overall great time. For sports and hanging out it is unprecedented. Great tables, seating area, TVs at every angle and size you could dream of. They make sure to regulate the lines to monitor the occupancy (Aka get there early), which is good from confirmability standpoint. The reason TITS doesn't get five stars is only because the dance floor gets a little too crowded. People are constantly walking through making it hard to move around. Additionally the crowd isn't the dancing type.

+ Wow, significantly more draught beers here than at the Central Sq location, but still not as much as Sunset Grill across the street. I'd consider coming here all the time if it wasn't so hard to get to from Cambridge. + Stay AWAY from the "fishbowls" or whatever they're called. It's just like a scorpion bowl filled with a mixed concoction of a supposedly strong potency. Instead of sipping on something I thought would be an enjoyable drunken experience, I was left diabetic and sober. The drink was way too sweet (pineapple juice, coconut rum, apple liqeur, etc) and was served with way too much ice. Save yourself the money and order a normal drink from their menu.

3 stars - food 1 star - service Their service is HORRIBLE! We saw our waitress 3x. Once to get our order, once when the food came, and once to give us the bill. The food was pretty good though. Maybe next time, we'll just hang out at the bar..
