Taste of Chicago Grill

As a Chicago native, I don't want to nitpick, but I have to speak the truth. The food was not bad. The mild sauce is like mistaken a stranger for somebody you know from a distance, but when you get "up on" them, you realize it's not them. But they do look like the person you thought it was. More like Chick fil a Polynesian sauce. I don't like to perceive that I'm being nickeled and dimed, so the dollar charge for mild sauce seemed slightly petty. The guy running the place seemed friendly enough, but in a sort of pushy/aggressive way. In no way was he overtly or directly rude or aggressive, but I can pick up subtleties when someone wants to quickly make the transaction without entertaining any questions. I get it though, customers can be annoying. Overall, the entire experience was ok. Am I in a rush to go back? No. Will I eat there again? Hmmmm. I'll see what happens.

I ordered and the owner started talking politics and the media so I told him I wasn’t interested in any of that. He got upset and said he had a right to his opinions and that I’m trying to tell him how to think. Not going back there again! After reading your response see below: As you’re talking without a mask you’re most likely spraying from your mouth into their food, doesn’t sound healthy to me Not all your customers think the same, again you miss the point. I went in there for food, not to subject myself to Right Wing Ideology and your mouth spray in my food! Why do you think this guy works alone? Nobody wants to be attacked nor around him.

Stopped by for lunch and it was great! I tried the Original Chicago Italian Beef Sandwich with fries. Both were excellent. I was surprised how tasty the sandwich and fries were. I recommend both and will return.

After moving away from Chicago one thing I have missed is the food. When I took my first bite of the Chicago hot dog I said "This is it". The Italian beef was also amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the food felt like I was back home. Amazing service and I will become a regular here! Thanks, JJ!

Native Chicagoans we’ve been missing Chicago food for a while specially the Italian beef and hot dog. We found this place and decided to try it out having very high hopes and it didn’t disappoint. It was like we were back home. Can’t wait to come back for more. JJ was welcoming and makes the best Chicago food on the west coast.
