TL;DR: A great place to unwind, eat some sushi and other assorted cuisine, and have a good end to the day. We came around to the establishment after a long day of touring around San Francisco and San Jose area. We were glad that we found somewhere to eat that closed an hour or more after we arrived. Additionally, while we were trying to find a different eaterie (that we still couldn't find after the fact), we saw Tanoshi Sushi clear as day (even though it was a little past dusk). The outside and inside is absolutely clean and beautiful (even the bathrooms). We ate inside but there is an outdoor option. The seating arrangement and decorations are nice, I find it really cool that we were sat a little bit away (like a table) from the other patrons that were already there. The server and staff are patient, attentive, and kind, especially if you are someone (like myself) who gets a little lost trying to find the bathroom or figure out what to eat. I myself tried their seaweed salad, steamed white rice, chicken gyoza, spicy tuna maki, salmon maki, and yellowtail sushi. While this was my first time trying yellowtail, I can say that I really enjoyed it. My sister tried the same as me with the addition of their shrimp roll, shrimp tempura and eel (I'm unsure if it was a roll, sushi, or maki, I was focused on the decorations and the soft ambience of the establishment) minus the chicken gyoza and steamed white rice. I can say that if we ever come back to California, I will strongly advocate that we visit the establishment again. It was worth the money (about $100 for the whole experience). Now, I'm unsure if it was because we were more late comers, our first time there, the amount we spent and tipped, or because we basically ate all our food except for one shrimp maki and some seaweed salad, but we were given complimentary mochi, which absolutely amazed me. I was absolutely flabbergasted and excited, it had been a while since the last time I had mochi. The two flavors (strawberry and green tea) were cut (either in half or quarters) and drizzled lightly with either chocolate syrup or sauce. While I don't usually partake in greentea flavored products, the greentea mochi was balanced well with the chocolate syrup and the strawberry mochi with the syrup was an absolute delight. It was an absolute treat and I'm so glad that we had gotten redirected by our curiosity. A fantastic end to our day and conveniently close to where we were staying for our trip.
This place is under a different name but it's still the same awesome service and awesome sashimi, sushi, gyozas, etc. We've been coming here since the kids could barely sit in the chairs and now they are no longer even teens. Very fresh sashimi and great sushi roll menu items. They did recently change their menu to add some new items, but they've removed some of their old "classics" (which they still do, whenever we've asked them). No more sushi boat floating around (due to COVID constraints) but still the great quality food and service.
