Been coming here for over 6 years. Any time I'm in the area I will stop by for a slice of hummingbird cake and look for any seasonal goodies. So delicious. My family and I have bought many cakes from Take the Cake over the years, always satisfied with the taste. It's sad to see their overall rating below 4 stars because they're definitely way better than that! I can understand 4.5-5 but 3.9 come on. Trust me, if you haven't tried them yet then you need to!! Don't mind the messed up frosting. I accidentally dropped the box to its side. they were flawless before.

First time trying Take the Cake and I will definitely be using them again! They made my baby shower cake and it turned out great. The design was very similar to the cake that we discussed over email. I was also very glad they were able to deliver to the shower on time. Flavor of the cake was also delicious!

For years I’ve been buying Italian Cream Cakes from this bakery. They’ve always been good. I ordered one for my St Paddy’s Birthday. It wasn’t fit to eat. It was dry/over cooked and the frosting was horrible. I was told they had to use a different frosting to keep the food coloring from running. It’s was flavorless and tasted like vegetable shortening. The decorations were bad….a single shamrock or clover in the center with perimeter piping. It was mis-shaped and ugly. I had out of town guests and I’m embarrassed I fed this to them. The pricing has gone up significantly as well. However, I don’t mind paying for quality which this was not.

Update: I have to update this review before I delete it. The GM called me today and made everything right. Alex listened and provided an unexpected resolution that I feel is a blessing. I am so happy that we can continue to patronize this business and that one bad apple did not spoil the bunch. I have been a loyal customer supporting this business for 7-8 years. I am absolutely disheartened at the situation that has recently occurred. In February I celebrated my birthday. I did what I normally do call to check availability, email the specifics, then call back to get the quote and pay the deposit. Well this time was no different. Everything went as it normally does but then I received an email to my cake request that was quoted lower than the phone quote. I called to explain the situation and ask was my final repayment being reduced. I was told no I asked to speak to management and that is when Lauren entered the picture. I explained the situation and she could not even try to listen to understand. As the customer I was wrong for even questioning or making suggestions regarding the business practice. I just felt that all quotes should be the same for the same services. I asked to speak to the owner because I was baffled by Lauren’s behavior and her disregard. I was told that someone would reach out and it never happened. My husband picked up my cake paid the remainder and even though I didn’t receive a call from the owner I just brushed it off because one bad apple shouldn’t spoil the bunch. Well I called today from my work phone to place a cake order for my husband. I asked if it was availability this weekend and I was told yes. I said ok I’ll send the information over. I called back on my personal phone after work to get the quote and place the order. The phone kept giving an error because guess what they did… they blocked me. I didn’t know this at first I just thought that maybe the phone turn off before closing. I had my friend call to see if she received the same error because I was hoping a business that I have patronized for so many years and literally never had a problem with would do something like that…. Guess what the call went through. I then say hi I’m called earlier I’m trying to get a quote for a cake. That is when the lady that answered put me on hold for 15 minutes. Then Lauren came on and told me they didn’t have availability. I told her I just called 30 minutes ago and she replied I have been upfront taking orders we don’t have availability. Then I mentioned the phone and that is when she said the old owner blocked my number and said she wouldn’t take orders from me anymore. I said I have been patronizing this company for 7-8 years and because I mentioned something I felt was wrong, so it wouldn’t happen again I’m refused service? I felt like it was wrong so I asked again for the owner to call to make sure that this was the owners doing and not Lauren’s. To make sure the owner knew what was taking place at their business. She said there is a new owner Alex and that he’ll be in but she’s unsure of the time. I am the type of person that is loyal to a fault. When I patronize I look past a lot. This literally takes the cake. Mind you my family goes in between cake orders to place cookie and cupcake orders and I have referred so many people. I hope the new owner brings positivity and understanding tomorrow, or I will be looking for another business. Also, this was my birthday cake. I didn’t even call about the way that it looked and how jumbled the numbers were. Why because obviously they can’t take constructive criticism. I’m the least bit confrontational. I just think right is right and wrong is wrong. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

This is THE BEST CAKE in Houston hands down. I just saw the review rating and there’s no way this place is anything below a 5 rating. I have guests who look forward to having cake at my son’s party because they know it’s going to be on point. This year, I unexpectedly had to reschedule my son’s party date because he had the flu and they worked with me to change the date. I am so thankful for Lauren’s help to get it right. There were so many compliments this year, I had to prepare a message to share all the details of their contact information. There were people still talking about it weeks later.
