WARNING LONG POST! TLDR SCROLL TO BOTTOM. I really wanted to love this place. The cakes are so pretty and well-decorated. I came twice before and walked out without ordering anything. The pastries they had looked dry, boring, and basic...crossaint, brownie, cookie, same ole same old. No danishes, tarts, pies, or anything fruity. The cakes were very standard flavors chocolate, berry, vanilla...nothing jumped out. I came in around 1pm so perhaps they were out of the stuff I wanted? Months later I was nearby and really craving for some cake. Walked in and again, same boring pastries. Looked at the cakes and a couple nothing looked enticing. It was funny because a party of 3 in line ahead of me browsed the selection, asked each other if anything "jumped out" at them, and they all nodded in agreement that nothing looked good and left without ordering anything. Then I a man came in who looked like a regular customer asking to try a new sample of anything new they had. I didn't want to leave a third time without trying anything so I asked him what his favorites were. He recommended the triple berry cake and the carrot cake. I liked both so I narrowed it down and asked the cashier what his favorites were between the 2. He said he liked the carrot because it has the cream cheese frosting so I went with that. I personally LOVE carrot cake and adore cream cheese frosting so I was excited to finally try something. It was just about the most disappointing slice of carrot cake I ever had. I don't know about you but when I have carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, I expect the cream cheese frosting to be the dominant outer frosting that would far exceed any other non-cream cheese frosting in the cake. For example, if you had a traditional vanilla layer cake, it's safe to assume the outside frosting would a vanilla buttercream and also be the frosting within the layers of the cake. Maybe if you wanted to spice it up, you'd put a custard or some whipped cream with berries or jam in between one or all of the layers inside but you wouldn't put any frosting other than vanilla outside the cake otherwise it would be a vanilla layer cake. This carrot cake was completely covered plain old boring whip cream. Within the 3 layers of cake left 2 layers of frosting to be filled. Only 1 of the 2 layers had the skimpiest amount of cream cheese frosting, the other layer was filled with huge hunks of walnuts mixed with an overly sweet caramel sauce. The walnut layer was slmost thicker than one of the cake layers making it the CRUNCHIEST carrot cake I ever had. The actual cake wasn't as moist or soft like just about every other carrot cake available anywhere and mind you I waited until my slice was at room temperature before eating it. Perhaps the other cakes are better. Its likely you'll get mainly whipped cream and barely any cream cheese frosting if you get the red velvet cake since it mentioned having whipped cream in the description. It seems this place likes to use whipped cream more than buttercream for the main outer frosting, NO THANKS! I love whipped cream, I'm fine with it being used as a filling in between layer cakes, but using it plain as an outer main frosting comes off stingy and tastes bland. TLDR SUMMARY: If you're the type that enjoys a semi-dry carrot cake with little to no cream cheese frosting that's almost as crunchy as trail mix, then this place is for you. Otherwise you're better off getting a slice of carrot cake from Susie Cakes, Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, or anywhere else. Even Ralph's is better, and for only 3 bucks a slice, you can walk away with 6 extra dollars in your pocket and a smile from having enjoyed a moist slice with a decent amount of yummy cream cheese buttercream frosting, that may not have had the better quality ingredients at Sweet Lady Jane's, but delivered the satisfaction that was lacking in my experience. And I hardly if not EVER go to Ralph's bakery when I want dessert or cake. I don't care to try anything else from here any time soon, but the service was good and workers were friendly.

Sweet Lady Jane always has the most amazing cakes with such a personable staff. We have purchased cakes from them time and time again as they never disappoint. I can promise you will find nothing even comparable to their Triple Berry elsewhere! Plus they even offer delicious breakfast and lunch options. Sweet Lady Jane not only has amazing cakes and desserts alike but they are have such a generous heart. Here at Miriam's House LA we are a sober living home for low income women and Children and Sweet Lady Jane has shown so much support towards our program. Thank you Sweet Lady Jane for your donation to Miriam's House!

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I ordered the tuna salad and realized that it had gone completely sour. The chef came out to ask me what had happened with the tuna and I explained that the fish had gone bad. He then said that they make it fresh every other day and that there was no way that could be the case and that he was sorry if I felt that way. I let him know that it's not an opinion and I'm a tuna enthusiast so I know when it's fresh and when it's spoiled. He raised his voice with me and continued to make me feel bad about the fact that he served me spoiled fish and wouldn't apologize or own up to it. As if that weren't enough, he came back out to tell us that if we don't order anything, we couldn't sit there even though there were several other open tables and no customers waiting on any of them. I let him know that I was struggling with his tone and he said "I don't care what you think of my tone." When I asked him what his name was, he said he didn't have to tell me and that he was done with the conversation. I would never return there, it quite literally left a sour taste in my mouth.

SLJ has been our local go to for years, the cakes are fantastic, not too sweet and are beautifully decorated. I’m not sure what is going on with the Montana location, but I’m pretty much not tempted to go in there ever again. There used to be warm and friendly staff who literally made the place inviting and just super cozy to be in. That time has clearly passed. The staff are borderline rude, not welcoming at all and clearly just not at all interested in being there. I called ahead to ask if a particular cake was in stock and if they had it available by the slice. Since lately the same 4 cakes are available, and some are not offered by the slice at all, I decided calling was a better way than driving ahead. The clerk confirmed to my surprise that they had one slice left and though not customary for them to save it, she would set it aside for me. So I rushed over. The moment I walked in it just felt so unwelcoming. No one on the staff greets customers when they walk in. I find that so odd. So I tell them about the one slice of the cake that was set aside and how great full I am since they haven’t had it for a while. I kid you not this is the response I get. ‘ you came to the wrong location, you probably called the West Hollywood location, we don’t have this cake, we had one the whole day and it’s for someone else……. I explain I called in advance, confirmed that they had it and that the lady set it aside. The lady comes out and says ….. no I put the whole cake aside, do you not want it anymore? …. She and I had a whole conversation about this before I got there. So to summarize, the place has lost its luster and clearly their customer base as previously a Saturday afternoon would mean a line out the door. The staff is just clueless and not at all friendly. I’m not writing this over a slice of cake, but over the fact that this is what a previously great place has now become. And it sucks. Nothing is in stock aside from full cakes. Slice prices have gone up to 10 at this point, and that price could even be called justifiable. But when you are a dimly lit, rudely-staffed cold storage for some pretty cakes, it’s just not worth it. Maybe swing by Suzie Cakes or Sprinkles to see what friendly service looks like.

The service at the Bakery was fantastic! The staff was all very friendly and ready to give helpful suggestions when my family and I visited, and were enthusiastic about recommending their favorites. When I contacted the bakery later for help with something, the response was quick and the manager responded even though the bakery wasn't open that day. Overall had a very good experience with the business, and would definitely visit again when I return to California!
