The Half Smoked Little Chicken was very good! The Baked Potato side was the smallest baked potato I have ever seen.

I recently went to Sweet Cheeks Q for dinner with a few friends and had a sort of bizarre experience. The food was fine; I was happy enough with my fried chicken and sides. But my meal was soured by a sitcom-esque debacle. When I ordered, I explicitly asked about whether the fried chicken (not tenders) came with any “scoops.” The tenders come with one “scoop,” and it’s unclear on the menu if that applies to all the chicken or just the boneless. Our server responded that not only does the fried chicken come with one scoop, it could come with two! She also offered me a dipping sauce, ranch or blue cheese. Our food came, we ate it, we then had an extraordinary long wait for some additional biscuits that my friend had asked for to-go at the beginning of our service. But then the bill came. I looked and saw the kitchen appreciation fee, which is always a slight annoyance given that it seems like a sly way of increasing prices without the customer internalizing them. But that’s generally accepted, so ok. But then I noticed I was charged for three extra items — 3 dollars for blue cheese (!), 5 dollars for by broccoli (side 1) and 6.50 for my potato (side 2). I politely asked the server to correct the charges for the sides (I had resigned myself to paying for the blue cheese, 3 dollars is crazy but ok). Instead of deducting them from the bill, she stated that yes, the sides did come with the chicken (as part of a meal), but no, that didn’t affect the price of the sides. She seemed completely unaware that her response to my earlier question was completely misleading. As if ordering the chicken gave me the right to order the precious sides, which is only reserved for customers that are turning their entree into a “meal.” Obviously when I asked the question comparing the tenders and the normal fried chicken, I was asking whether the chicken included a side as a part of the price, as the boneless does. I certainly hope I would be allowed to order any number of sides I would want with anything. I would not have ordered sides if I had known they would have cost more, hence why I asked in the first place. I never write reviews, but this was probably one of the most insane misunderstandings I’ve ever experienced. I understand that miscommunications happen, but the fact is that I was offered no consolation or even acknowledgement that I was misled. Hopefully my experience will help the next unwary diner, or help them avoid an establishment that seems unconcerned with deceiving their customers out of their hard-earned money without even giving them the respect of a legitimate apology.

I can’t speak to the quality of the food necessarily, it seemed just fine to me but I wouldn’t consider myself a BBQ expert by any means. What was off was the service- it was Sunday night around 7PM, the dining room was beginning to fill up and I think only one server on the floor. She was very kind and helpful but a few things left a bad mark on my impression- 1) our bucket of biscuits arrived (they’re fine, nothing special, the jam tasted a bit old) and only one of the 4 of us was given a plate before we asked for more. 2) when our food came we had no forks and had to ask for those as well 3) one of my friends ordered coleslaw and I ordered the baked potato as a side and we were both given potato salad instead. Our server walked by our table several times as I tried to get her attention. She wasn’t particularly slammed as I saw her standing and chatting with a friend sitting by the window. Once she did manage to check in with us I mentioned the switch up and she said “oh yeah, we’re actually out of baked potatoes so instead of asking you I figured you would want the potato salad instead” which is just….a crazy thing to do????? Like, to knowingly ring in a guests order wrong and then not mention it when the food gets dropped or check in about it until you’re flagged down is just bad service. At that point I had been sitting waiting to eat because I wanted what I had actually ordered so I said it was fine and we continued on. All in all nothing egregious but just kind of a weird experience. And then what seemed like the floor manager asked if our bill was all set, took it off our table and then stood glaring at our sever (who was now very busy and running around) to give it to her instead of ringing it himself. Weird vibes.
