I received a living and moving shellfish for the first time, but unfortunately I can't post the video here. It was absolutely delicious.
Best place ever! Get there early, there is limited seating and a line will form. And yes, it is worth the wait! You can also call in an order. One thing of note, this is a cash only business. Closest atm is at the pharmacy across the street. Order the sashimi plate (not on the wall menu), oysters, and sea urchin if they have it.
Fresh seafood. The cherry stones were the best part every visit. Cash only. Limited hours but weekdays there’s no line typically
The most famous oyster bar in SF or the world There always is a long line, but it surely deserves to be in a cue. Oyster is rich and refreshing.
Tried it the first time. Now, I know why Anthony Bourdain used to love this place so much.
The hype is real. It's cash-only, so bring plenty of cash. The servers both take orders and prepare them. Make sure to arrive early to avoid long lines. I went around 9 am and didn't have to wait. I ordered the Dungeness crab, half dozen oysters, and small Sicilian sashimi. The Dungeness crab is served cold (though I thought it would be warm for some reason), but everything is incredibly fresh and delicious. I would return to SF just to come back here.
Fantastically fresh seafood and cheerful service await you in this tiny old-school fish joint. Be aware that you'll almost certainly have to wait an hour or more standing outside in line - today we waited two hours in the rain to be the very last seated. The crab salad was tender and delightful - probably the best I've ever had; LOTS of real fresh horseradish in the dip, enough to make me a little uncomfortable. Decent fresh bread, though not soft or warm and with cheap cafeteria style hard butter wraps. The "Boston" clam chowder was cream (nod red) as God intended, though not as thick and silvery as a true New England chowder and didn't have meaningful chunks of clam. The michelada beer was really nicely done with hearty use of clam juice and - again! - very liberal use of horseradish. All in all a fascinating experience to have once, but it's also hard to desire to stand again for hours in the rain to repeat. I want to underscore again how incredibly kind, genuine, and enthusiastic the staff was. They really love what they do and it shows.
