Swallow Kitchen & Cocktails TL:DR small plate, cozy atmosphere, fancy cocktails, make a reservation. Incredibly good **** The atmosphere is cozy, but a little close. Dimly lit with fanciful décor, swallow is an ideal place for a date night, a girl’s night out, or some lovely craft cocktails at the bar with friends. If you do not enjoy dining close to other patrons, it may not be so enjoyable. There were several craft cocktails to choose from. We tried the Raspberry Tarte Spritz, made with Chambord, lemonade, and prosecco. It was light and fruity and would make a lovely breakfast cocktail and was a genuinely enjoyable way to start the evening. We also tried the harvest sangria, red wine, apple brandy, triple Sec, apple cider, and bubbles. The sangria was crisp and delicious. There were many more choices, such as the Hazelnut Lattini, stoli vanilla, Mr. Black, Coffee, and Hazelnut cream. It looked delicious, I did not try it, but the table next to me did and it looked amazing. I will definitely return to try this and some of their other signature cocktails. The food was incredibly good. We ordered the butternut squash cappuccino, with truffle cream and cinnamon. We also tried the “mac and cheese,” the mushroom toast, and the cola braised short ribs, finishing our meal with a tres leches bread pudding. The butternut squash cappuccino was divided in the kitchen so my companion and I both had our own cup. It was delicious if a little sweet for me. I do not believe I would be able to finish an entire serving on my own, thank goodness for friends. The “mac and cheese” came out second. Orzo pasta with peas, and bacon in the most luxurious creamy cheese sauce, comes across more as risotto than a pasta and was sinfully delicious, highly recommend. Our third course was the mushroom toast, forest mushrooms, with cognac, mascarpone, charred kale, over grilled ciabatta bread. Honestly, the highlight of the entire meal. I would have been ok not sharing this one! Just kidding, I did not mind sharing, but it was really that good. Would absolutely order again. Our last savory course was the Cola braised short ribs with garlic mash, carrots, and fava beans. It was great the mashed potatoes were super creamy, and the short ribs melt in your mouth delicious, however, I thought the cola braising liquid was almost too sweet. We finished the meal with a tres leches bread pudding. It was delicious if not a little dense. The caramel sauce was to die for. The service was quick and attentive, and we did not lack for a thing. There are so many choices on the menu, you could come time and again, and never have the same thing twice; plenty of choices to satisfy the most discerning palate. It is a small place. Reservations are necessary, even with just two people, even at 5pm. If you want to experience Swallow, do not wing it. Parking: We arrived fairly early and there was plenty of parking. The greenlawn night life scene seems to be amping up, so parking could be somewhat of an issue during prime time
I've gone here multiple times and every time the food is incredible! This is by far my favorite restaurant on Long Island! I've tried many things which have all been delicious but the ones that stand out are the Mushroom toast, the Scallops Crudo, the charred cauliflower, the braised short ribs and the burgers! I recommend this to everyone I know that's looking for the best food around! They also have delicious and pretty cocktails that are a lovely start to the evening! Every time the service has been fantastic too! If you're looking for a great meal, or a great bottomless brunch on a Sunday - look no further!
