I was a frequent patron back before COVID. Went back recently and was disappointed. At first, I didn't notice the changes bc I still wanted to believe the old restaurant was the same. But seems like ownership changed and the replaced wait staff didn't reflect the charm and personality that once was. Seems like in an effort to cut cost the place settings and utensils that used to reflect authenticity have now been replaced with cheaper, non-Japanese versions. Tables were added in poor locations, one that nearly blocked the kitchen entrance seemed a bit dangerous. We ordered a special sashimi platter, which was good, but the tempura wasn't the golden color that I expected but the brownish color that is indicative of using older oil that should've been switched out. The thin bonito flavored tempura sauce was also replaced something heavier, perhaps in an attempt to overpower the taste of the tempura. I also expected a serving of grated Daikon, but that was missing as well. There were still a short line outside, so is still popular. But fell short of what I had come to expect - can't imagine coming back again.
