I want to like this place but after several visits the lack of customer service needs to be called out. Specifically the hosts at this restaurant. It’s as if being condescending is a requirement to be a host here. They’re the least accommodating and rudest people I’ve dealt with in the restaurant business. As someone who’s worked as a host, waitress & and cocktail server I tend to make excuses when the service isn’t great because someone could be having a bad day. My most recent encounter with the host with the beauty mark on her face really did it for me. I asked to be seated at the bar and she simply told us we could not take 2 out of the 3 seats open because it had been reserved for others. She then proceeded to contradict herself by explaining bar is first come first serve yet you can’t actually reserve it. Please make it make sense? I would’ve been understanding if her tone wasn’t rude and demeaning as if I was inconveniencing her or asking for something ridiculous. If you lack people skills and basic manners don’t work in hospitality. The management here needs to properly train their staff and focus on the lack of customer service.
Pop in for a morning treat & drink, or a splendid dinner... Suraya never disappoints!
Philadelphia is famous for many restaurants, chief among them the Starr restaurants line up, which are difficult to beat. But there's one restaurant that actually can! Suraya. It's a modern yet authentic Lebanese restaurant, with a stunning ambiance and even better food & drinks. You can't go wrong with any of their offerings but my personal favorites are: - Muhammara - Fatteh - Arnabeet Mekle - Djej Meshwi - Samke Harra For drinks, try the Poet. It's not the cheapest place and you probably should drive there (not conducive for public transportation) but it's worth all the trouble! There is a dedicated paid parking lot just behind the restaurant for $15. This is an absolutely must try place, period.
My girlfriend and I had a phenomenal experience at Suraya for our anniversary. We ordered the tasting menu which is available on Fridays. We also got to order one Mezza each and we ordered the potato dish and cauliflower dish. My girlfriend is a potato lover and she liked the crispy potato on her first bite. I thought the cauliflower dish was THE best dish of the night…. Until I had a bite of the Branzino fish that she ordered. Oh man, I wished I ordered the same dish. The roasted lamb I ordered was way too salty and that was the only flaw of the night.
