I was insulted, profiled, and abused here. Some context here; I was followed down 51st street to my apartment, and accused of stealing by an employee here. The man then demanded the money for a bottle of water, which I replied I had already paid. I live this street and became embarrassed from neighbors witnessing this, so I gave him another $1.25. He gave me a dirty look and walked away. I then decided to go back, because I did nothing wrong and was simply shook down by the thugs that work the counter at the Sunnyside Super Deli. The lady then forced me to stand there, and watch her go through the surveillance video. All whilst patrons (my neighbors) are walking in and out and wondering what could be wrong. She was rude, and down right cruel. Once the video revealed I had in fact paid for the water when I was in earlier, she then told me I was over reacting, this happens, and "No, not only to black people." SHE SAID THAT!!! I have it recorded! I then had to ASK to get my money back that I had given the guy that chased after me. I called the police, and BBB but am alerting every avenue possible of this painful experience in hopes that those with empathy don't patron bigotry. There is a new store a couple doors down with superior products and prices, go there please. Lets keeps Woodside a peaceful, family oriented, peaceful town, where we can let our kids play together without worry of racist THUGS projecting their inferiority complex's all over a society they aren't wanted in.

This is in response to the review by Chris Carter. I am the lady that he refers to as "rude, and down right cruel." Firstly, I would like to apologize again, as I did in the deli, about what happened. Like Mr. Carter has said in his review, he purchased a bottle of water from another employee, unbeknownst to myself and the other employee who asked again for the $1.25. This was an honest mistake because there have been numerous incidences where patrons, either intentionally or unintentionally, walked out without paying. Even before Mr. Carter followed the employee back to the deli, I was in the process of checking the video surveillance to confirm whether he paid or brought the bottle of water in from somewhere else. However, as I am spending the time and effort to check the video, I turn around to see him holding a smartphone upright and pointed directly at me. I asked him if he was recording a video. He said he was and that he was going to call the cops if I did not return the money. This is when I replied that he was overreacting and did not have to call the cops because I was cooperating and checking the video for him. I also told him that we were not racially profiling him and this has happened to other people regardless of age and race. He replied that he never insinuated that we were racially profiling him. However, his review says otherwise with accusations of "patron bigotry" and "racist thugs." We did not mean for you to feel "insulted, profiled, and abused." We always check the surveillance for any and all patrons when a need or situation arises. We are only trying to make ends meet without incurring any more losses, such as from theft. On the contrary, I felt I was the one being abused with the video recording, threats to call the cops, repeatedly asking for the owner's name, and several calls to the store after the money was returned and the incident was supposedly resolved. If I appeared "rude, and down right cruel," I apologize for my behavior but it was in response to your actions as well. P.S. The "new store a couple doors down with superior products and prices" is also managed by us... P.P.S. Google is not letting me submit this review without a rating. I am only writing this review to apologize to Mr. Carter and clear any misunderstanding and untruths.

I wasn't going to review the store and was only looking for hours until I stumbled upon the last review. I was also made to feel like I stole from the store and I am an asian man (so these guys aren't racists they just have issues with thieves). I had paid for cigs but they didn't put it in my bag. When I went back they asked me if I'm sure and told me they will review video.... I will admit I don't dress clean all the time but I am a regular here. And was a regular before the new owners. It seems there's a lot of stealing going on at this store and obviously going after the wrong people.. But it's pretty much the same store. Clean and always has fresh coffee. If it wasn't for them kind of accusing me, I'd give it a 5 star.
