As always, Starbucks knocks it out of the park. I usually don't go in for chain restaurants or cafes or even coffee shops, preferring to experience local fare. However, Starbucks is the exception. Somehow they've mastered the art of the coffee shop experience. The handcrafted drinks are great (if yours isn't great - Starbucks policy is to make you another one that is. All you have to do is ask), the food is actually good, and the atmosphere is relaxing. When traveling and seeking out new experiences, Starbucks is like visiting home. It's warm and welcoming and just feels comfy. But talk about seeking out local venues to learn about the culture, Starbucks is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon people watching. You can really get a feel for the city this way. It's also a great place to strike up an acquaintance and conversation. Starbucks encourages lingering.
