Good food - the boys and I got breakfast Sunday morning, the food was solid and it was a pretty chill place, nice and quiet. Plus they have 2 kiosks to order from, which makes ordering pretty easy.

Absolutely one of the greatest breakfast or lunch places in the Detroit area, whether you are Jewish or not, kosher or not. The breadth and variety of the menu is amazing, and I've never had anything that wasn't good to great here. Shai, the chef, is amazing and a great cook. Love this place. Usually at a restaurant you have to pick two out of these three attributes: quick, cheap, and good. At this restaurant you get all three always, even when they are busy.

The server gave me the wrong bagel without asking what I wanted.

Easily one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I am forced to share my comments publicly here as I was rudely dismissed when I attempted to offer this feedback face to face with the owner/manager. My feedback draws from my most recent experience and two prior visits. My colleague and I entered around 9:15 am on Wednesday. There was one table occupied by an adult and his daughter. We were not greeted by anyone. We proceeded to order using the kiosks. I selected an omelette on pumpernickel bagel (as I have at every visit) and turned to ask the employee behind counter if that’s in fact available. His answer was “whatever is offered on the kiosk” to which I retorted “…it’s offered on the kiosk” to which he replied “we don’t have pumpernickel”. Riiiight. My friend ordered “avocado toast”. A ubiquitously trendy item that seems difficult to screw up. Fast forward 20 minutes because that’s the minimum time for any order. Despite asking for my omelette on the bagel, the omelette came on the side. The avocado “toast” was served on a bagel (false advertising?). The avocado “paste” was not fresh and it was spicy despite the bearded owner gaslighting us and insisting to us it’s “home made and not spicy!”, while the other manager or co-owner chose the policy of honesty and revealed it is in fact NOT homemade. The suspense ended when we were shown a Kirkland Signature single-serve guacamole dipping container. This place is embarrassing and dare I say: a chilul Hashem. The first booth is used as an improvised storage space with boxes heaping well above my height. The dining room is disheveled, tattered, and uninviting. The open exhibition kitchen is occluded from customers’ view in such an unnatural way with a tacky white pseudo-wall addition that begs the question “what’s the big secret?”. The ice cream bunker has tubs of ice cream like anywhere else, except the vanilla tub is also holding bags of frozen peas - a new flavor perhaps? The bearded owner or manager leaves little to the imagination as the side view of the kitchen gives an unobstructed view as he touches every dirty contact surface including his face, beard, phone, and currency while wearing the same pair of disposable nitrile gloves. When I gently suggested he change his gloves after touching unsanitary items he turned around stormed away and said in Hebrew to his colleague “did you hear what this guy said to me?!”. I was shocked. This was not the first time I have observed unsanitary hand hygiene here; the last time a young cashier handled my money and then proceeded to handle my bagel while wearing the same gloves. I can only imagine that a business operated in this piss-poor fashion can continue to exist in a community whose clientele knows next-to-nothing about food service or they are so critically limited in their options that “beggars can’t be choosers”. I would choose the Dunkin’ Donuts across the street all day every day rather than this regrettable disaster which left me feeling deceived, insulted, To be clear, my colleague and I tried to share all of this feedback with the bearded owner/manager however we were met with hostile defensiveness and excuses. I was perplexed: wouldn’t an owner want to know how he could do better? He gains everything and loses nothing by listening. Unfortunately, this way he gains nothing and loses much because I will not return and I will not recommend this establishment. I would consider removing this review if I received a response from the management consisting of an apology, refund for the “avocado toast”, and corrective measures that will be taken to prevent this from happening again.
