I have been coming to this place for over 20 years and it has been one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. I came for lunch again today and saw that the management has changed and was hoping for the best. I ordered red curry from the lunch menu as I have done numerous times before. I usually can't eat too spicy food but can handle 2-3 spice level. In the menu it is listed that the spice curry is at level of 2 and I specifically asked them to keep it as mild as possible and I was reassured that it will be level 2. I got my order and level was closer to 8. I felt bad wasting the food, so I tried to eat it and after a while I started coughing and tearing from the burning sensation caused by spiciness. Not a big deal, but the waiter asked me if everything was OK and I said that this was much spicier then it should have been, and he kindly offered to give me another dish which was very nice of him. Then he comes back from the kitchen with my plate and says that I have to pay half of the dish price (!) as I apparently ate more than 50% of my meal, and then I have to pay for another new full meal. The money is not an issue here, but to be treated like this is absolutely beyond acceptable level. I have never experienced something like this. Of course, I would have totally paid for the new meal, that's not the issue, but to ask me to pay 50% of the meal that was wrongly prepared by the kitchen is appalling. They lost a customer and much more over something so trivial ($7). I hope you don't make the same mistake as me and please do go to a place that will treat you respectfully and which actually stands by the facts on the menu.
Decent but not amazing. we were expecting an “unassuming” low key joint per the google maps description, but it looks like the restaurant changed names and potentially decor so it’s just another bougie la jolla restaurant. We got the golden moon appetizer - don’t get that- it was trader joe’s frozen aisle level of texture and flavor. i was expecting a crispy flaky bigger buttery pastry. barely any filling inside! I got the larb chicken salad and my friend got the pan and curry. Both were good. Ended with the FBI dessert and welll….it didn’t taste as good as the description, mostly cuz why wrap the banana in egg roll skins instead of just tempura batter???
I love the Spicy Fried Rice made with cauliflower rice. Low carb yet so delicious. Service is always so friendly. *UPDATE 1/27/24* Under new management. My husband really likes the cashew nut with chicken. Unfortunately, they don't have the cauliflower rice anymore, so I had the fresh spring rolls with tofu. They were beautifully done and quite a lot of food! Four big rolls.
