Food was tasty however could have been more food for the price and hotter for being the only patrons at the time.
Let me first start off by saying me and my wife began to patronized Soco in 2017. This was one of our favorite places to sip, eat and chill. We've haven't been here since pandemic (2020). Today we decided to come back back " home". Our server Demitria and the bartender was excellent, which both was tipped 20%. Our complaint was the cajun catfish nuggets and cajun cod fish were too salty ( probably due to the batter used to coat the nuggets and your overly salted cajun seasoning). This in turn destroyed our palate when eating our entrees . All we was tasting was salt. I suggest using McCormick seafood batter or panko for your fried catfish. Secondly your " strawberry shortcake " was 2 hard and dried - cold short bread biscuits and not the soft warm "sponge cake" that was described in your menu. Finally we ordered the cornbread ( which was a " mini " corn muffin $4 ) and the Mac & cheese $16( which back in the days was the " bomb") which both was lacking and over priced. I know that alot of restaurants suffered Enormous financial loses during the pandemic. But its no reason for Soco to lower their standards to make a " buck". Hopefully this critique is received well and Soco can returned back to pre-pandemic levels.
Welll we maybe should have tried something different. The food was very average and the drink was poorly made. It's been a while since we've been and gave it a shot.
Good food and drinks. The spicy meatballs were really good. I had a Soco salad with steak which was seasoned well. Overall I had a good time. I also felt welcomed by the staff.
I had reservations about writing this review, as it goes against my usual behavior. However, I feel compelled to express my thoughts. Being a Black man, I make an effort to support fellow black-owned establishments. Let me emphasize that when I dined at your establishment last week, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the drinks were served in the tiniest and dirtiest glasses I have ever come across. The state of the bathrooms was appalling, with rust and untidiness prevailing. Moreover, the excessively loud music made it impossible for me to have a conversation with my date. Despite my disappointment, I chose to keep my criticisms to myself and hurriedly finished my meal in order to leave as soon as possible. The only redeeming factor that would potentially bring me back is the quality of the food.
My first visit, won’t be my last. Went there with some friends on 2/3/24 and we enjoyed ourselves. I was a little bit disappointed because they were out of a few things we ordered. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. Oh, and the guy playing the Sax was amazing! A bit too loud, but amazing Will be back soon!
Everything is SO GOOD! We tried the spicy meatballs that were incredible little flavor bombs. Fried Chicken with the red velvet waffle was the ultimate comfort food. I can’t stop thinking about the Mac and cheese omg. Loved the music and vibe. Perfect date night spot
The food is mm-good. This place has a good vibe and service, Kudos....
I’m originally from ArkLaMiss and just wanted a little comfort from home. (Side note: can definitely cook it myself but NYC doesn’t sell filé in stores) It’s a snow day so I decided to pop in. Ordered Fried Catfish bites and Gumbo to go. While waiting on my order I decided to have an Angry Orchard. Beer selection trash. But the reason for my post is the Gumbo. Throw it in the trash. Gumbo is not “tomato and lobster” based. Gumbo definitely does not have frozen mixed vegetables… you know green beans and carrots. The bartender which was awesome called it Gumbo Fusion. Well put that on the menu because that is a seafood soup. Not at all close to Gumbo and where’s the slim and okra? Scared to try the grits Positives: atmosphere, music, bartender and location
