The menu is small hamburger or double cheeseburger and a few kids items. They have a large selection of beers, mixed drinks and cans of soda. Chicken tenders and sandwich coming soon. Burger comes with Dijonnaise, onions and pickles. Sign states you can add bacon lettuce or tomato. They have a Restaurant Surcharge of 3.25% to keep the cost of food down. What? But you can request it to be removed. Had them add lettuce and was charged .89. It was two small squares of lettuce, it did not even overlap to sandwich. To me the burger was very salty and nothing special. So for the double cheeseburger, fries and a can of soda my total bill was $21.92. They do not take cash, you must use a card. Then the system asks if you want to tip after you are charged the 3.25%. Inside is cute it has a vibe of outside patio feel. Trees with lights and vines on the wall. Unfortunately this is a one and done. Will not be going back. For this price I could go to several other places for a nice dinner not just a burger.

Comparing to pre-pandemic Wicker Park location, for reference: Burgers were good, as expected. Fries were awful. I was used to the thick cut golden fries, instead it was nearly $5 for a small bag of flimsy thin cut fries. There is also no condiments stand. Loved the Sir Kensington pumps at the downtown location, was offered 2 packets of Heinz here. If you're heading here just for the burger, I'd recommend, but save yourself the disappointment and skip the side of fries.

Ordered the double Cheeseburger keto style and fries only. $17.79 no drink. Burger was pink inside fries were crispy. I asked for a receipt as I always do and found a surcharge. .50 or 3.25% most probably don't realize they are being charged and paying this fee. I asked why...it's to pay for food increases. The burgers are small nothing special fries are basic. So family of 4 will pay over $100 with drinks. They say they can remove the surcharge but I don't appreciate being charged without knowing. They also have a drive through. Cute lobby tables and trees also tables for outdoor dining.

It was a pleasant experience all around. I will say they added a bit too much of the dijonnaise.

Having been to Au Cheval probably 10 times and various Small Chevals, I was SO excited to only have to travel 20 minutes to get this burger. I brought my cousin for her first experience and everything (burgers, fries and ice cream) was fresh and delicious! I love that Small Chevals do shakes/ice cream, and their shakes are so good. We came around 230 so we missed the lunch and dinner rushes - I imagine it can get packed in there, but there were only a few tables taken up when we were eating. It's pricey, but I knew that coming in and not surprised given the location. I've heard complaints about the aioli because of the mayo switch but I still thought it was great ‍♀️ The actual location is incredibly cute, they did a great job with the layout and decor. I especially loved the high windowed roof, so much light! Will be back sooner than later.

It took such a long time for this location to open up but so glad it finally did! Perfect location, near everything. Drive-thru is a big win but the indoor and patio space are beautiful and spacious for one to enjoy. Love the retractable roof feature as well, although the roof was "on" - sunny but cold. Opening day and second day weren't ridiculously busy. Came in to dine-in for linner. Ordered their house style cheeseburger which I probably haven't had, usually just do a single burger with lettuce and tomato, a side of fries and garlic aioli, as well as kid size vanilla cone dipped in sprinkles. If you're dining in, you get a buzzer. Waited a decent 8ish minutes, not bad. Buzzer buzzed and the vanilla cone was ready but not the burger and fries. Was told that I can hold on to the buzzer til it buzzed again. The buzzer didn't stop and I didn't know if this was an issue so I went back to the counter and asked but heard different things from two other staff: "The buzzer will take a bit to stop, but will buzz again," and "You're burger and fries aren't ready yet... so you can go sit and relax" (I think this one was getting annoyed). Not even 2-seconds, another worker brings the rest of my order. I gave customer service a 2.5 or 3/5-stars which is not surprising from my rate for Small Cheval, in general. Staff need to communicate to one another, be on the same page, be in the know of what is going on, and have some better people skills. /End rant. Food is 5/5 yet I can live without the house style burger and its dijonnaise sauce. Their golden fries are always a must. Kid size dipped cone is a perfect size. Vegetarian options: Plant Based Burger option
