This is going to be a long review, but it’s worth reading if you’re thinking about shopping here. Honestly, I would give negative stars if I could, the store manager, Dan is extremely rude and disrespectful. He screamed at me and did not want to apologize nor accept responsibility for rude customer service. But instead, he blamed me for feeling the way I did and was very emotionally abusive. For example, he screamed at me and said things like, “YOU’RE TOO SENSITIVE,” and “STOP ACTING LIKE A LITTLE GIRL,” and then he called security on me for raising a complaint and for simply calling him out on his rude behavior. I was escorted out of the store without a reason right after I raised a complaint on his unprofessionalism and his failure to train his staffs properly on delivering positive customer service. Shoprite overcharged me when it came to the discount pricing errors, and I went to the guest service area to correct it. But the 2 staff members, gave me a hard time and were very unprofessional in their demeanors. For instance, one staff, Arlene, called me a "Karen" and pointed her index finger at me by speaking rudely to me, and then gossiped about me the whole time when I am still standing right there in front of her. The second staff (Ellen), was rudely uncooperative because she gave me an attitude by talking down to me, and was reluctant to give me my money back when I have a receipt and digital coupon showing the error. That’s when I came in and I got the store manager, involved. But, little did I know that the store manager Dan, did not want to do his job to take customer complaints. When I questioned Dan on “why” he called security on me, he was struggling to give a answer. One example was, he kept stuttering and uttered, “uuhh, for uuuhhh, ummmm… errr, uh uh, for uhhhhh.“ …it was an awkward moment, and he couldn't find a reason for why he wanted me escorted out after pointing out his lies and unprofessionalism for insulting me. His actions showed reckless disregard for customer needs when a concern was raised. One example of him screaming at me was him yelling at me in anger, "I DON'T NEED YOUR BUSINESS,” and then uttering, "YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME!!" while his job is supposed to be addressing customers' concerns or dissatisfaction with a product, or service. He didn't want to do his job, so he kicked me out of the store for raising a complaint about improvements needed on customer service training. Furthermore, the guards were also very rude and disrespectful (They went by the name, “John.”) For instance, they carried out their duties unprofessionally by reprimanding me without even questioning the manager why I am being escorted out when I did nothing wrong. They also didn't want to hear my side of the story. It appears that there could be some sort of favoritism/nepotism involved since there was not enough diversity in the store (all the day-time employees were white), so they ganged up on me without an explanation because I was Asian. This incident occurred on Friday, March 1st, 2024, at approximately 11:56 AM. To HR/corporate people who are willing to track them down, they're located on 2656 Hylan Blvd, store#114. Dan Baumgartner is the real culprit because he did not want to train his staffs to be friendlier to the customers simply because they were "ladies." As a result of the dispute, the guards pushed me out of the store and threatened to call the cops on me. It is a sad disgrace that this store has turned into. I have documentary evidence to prove that Dan, and his staffs was found guilty of committing these inappropriate actions. I feel things shouldn't have escalated if he had apologized for his mistake. But instead, he didn't, and just called security to kick me out. I have been a loyal customer of Shoprite for at least over 4 years. But now, I have no choice but to go to HL supermarket to do my shopping since they're the only new supermarket on Staten Island that welcomes asian customers. All-in-all, don't shop here, go to a different supermarket that respects your hard-earned money.
