Food was great

I would rate ZERO star if this is an option on google review. Very disappointed dinner experience - the service was horrible, the servers act like they don’t care about customer’s feeling at all, and we have waited a significant long time to have our food. The food quality was terrible as well, especially sweet and sour croaker, it was supposedly a highlight, BUT WAS NEITHER FRESH NOR PROPERLY CLEANED!! If you are looking for an Asian or Shanghai cuisine restaurant, please save your money and time and go to somewhere else.

I kept hearing recommendation of Shine and finally decided to give it a try. I myself came from Shanghai and feel today's order from Shine is far from its branding!!! I sincerely hope the chef improve the Shanghai Fish! I ordered Shanghai Fish(1 out of 5), Shanghai Meatball(5 out of 5), and Pork Rib + Rice Cake (3 out of 5) Shanghai Fish is too disappointing. 2 steps for this dish: 1, deep fry - the fish today is not deep fried at all!!! 2, soak fried fish in sweet and savory source - the fish is not soaked - flavor is only on the external. I could not be more disappointed given this place is labeled as Best Shanghai Food in Chicago and this dish is THE signature Shanghai Appetizer! Pork Rib + Rice Cake regained its popularity due to recent Chinese drama - Blossom. Apparently Shine is not well prepared - the Pork Rib is just traditional topping of noodles. However, rice cake seems homemade but at a lower end in terms of quality.

Cherry, our cherished server at Shine, enhances the dining experience at my beloved Lincoln Park sushi haven. Over a decade of consistent superb service, Cherry’s attentiveness adds an extra layer of delight to each visit. The spicy calamari and the Mexican maki, served with Cherry’s friendly touch, always leave a lasting impression. Not to mention, Cherry’s recommendations for the perfect lychee martini are spot-on. With Cherry’s exceptional service and Shine’s unwavering excellence, it’s no wonder this has been my go-to for over ten years. Highly recommended!

Shine has become my favorite spot for fantastic food and a warm ambiance. The stir-fries are consistently delicious, and the sushi is top-notch. Shine is my absolute go-to place! The Dragon Roll from the sushi menu is a visual and flavorful masterpiece – the freshness of the fish is unmatched. The atmosphere is cozy, making it an ideal spot for a laid-back date night. Shine has earned its place as my top choice for mouthwatering stir-fries and sushi that never disappoint.

This is my favorite local sushi place. We love the pink Sekura maki, rock and roll maki, chicken lettuce wraps and sesame tuna dip. It’s such unique and delicious sushi.
