Shapiro's Delicatessen

Always love the food it is excellent. But chasier was short and a tad rude. Plastic barrier cant hear through and it is very loud in there.

Obviously Shapiro’s is an Indy establishment and I respect its long history. Maybe it’s just not for me. I got the half pastrami sandwich which I thought had great meat but was small for the price and the tiny bread was visibly smushed with employee finger marks. My guests got the reuben to split which I think was also pretty good but nothing really mind-blowing for the price. I had a bigger problem with the other cafeteria style items. There are signs even in the restaurant acknowledging that the food is expensive but that they won’t skimp on quality, yet the items in the cafeteria line looked like they had been sitting out for hours and all looked very unappetizing. My guests did order a side of mac and cheese that I tried and it was tasteless mush, and had an odd sweet note. Kind of like macaroni pudding more than some great mac and cheese (I think a minimal amount of cheese was even in it). And the small cup of borscht looked extremely underwhelming and I’m glad I didn’t order that too. I left hungry still but didn’t want to spend the exorbitant prices on any of the subpar sides. I’m glad people enjoy the place but I don’t think I will be back.

Ever if there was such a place, where it's a cafeteria and it serves great food? Shapiro's is the THE place! Home of Indianapolis famous Ruben sandwiches, this restaurant also has a fantastic bakery. The Ruben's taste like they should and the cheesecake will make you not wanting to go to The Cheesecake Factory. This is definitely one of the best restaurants to go in Indianapolis.
