I decided to celebrate my birthday here this year and I am very glad I made the right choice. Every bite was so obviously carefully considered and had subtle yet impressive flavor combinations. I didn’t know what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised and will definitely be coming back.
Went with my girlfriend and her mom for my gf's birthday. Tried to go in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised! Truly a unique shabu experience and I learned it was the same group that runs Cocoron which I also love. The course menu is all prepared by the staff and beautifully done. There wasn't a dish that I thought was bad. Apps were fun and varied from scallops, to Caesar salad, to the tofu skin with uni which was very different. All the meat was fantastic as you could expect from Washugyu and A5 Wagyu. We were served by one of the owners Mayu and she was friendly and quick to serve! Was satisfying to watch her prepare every bite. There were 3 types of meat they used throughout the meal alternating through each one. Some of the courses I was skeptical of like the ones with tomato sauce or basil sauce actually were very well balanced in flavor and a nice break from the rest of the Japanese flavored meats and veggies. The sukiyaki was delicious and I gulped the remaining egg and sauce. Soba was a nice clean brothy ending to it all but the black sesame ice cream really capped it off nicely. Probably the best black sesame ice cream I've ever had. Gave the ambiance a 4 because it did get a tad bit hot in there, but that is just me being picky. Loved the jazz music that was playing and this place reminded me of the tiny hallway style restaurants in bars in Japan. Mayu took care of us really well and even brought out my girlfriend a candle and little Happy Birthday ornament for her ice cream. Would definitely return for special occasions as it definitely is pricey but as a guy who generally eats a lot, I was content at the end of the meal because I was skeptical if it was going to be enough food. Thank you Mayu!
Great experience of shabu shabu. The food is amazing with high quality ingredients and delicious. I would love to be here.
Upscale shabushabu that you must try at least once (but do note, they had B sanitary inspection rating when I had visited) Main meats were pork, miyazaki wagyu, and washugyu, with different sauces and combinations + some palette cleansing pieces in between. Loved every single item we were served, with a very strong final dessert - sesame icecream (which I would buy tubs of, in a heartbeat if they ever sold it!!!) Take note: - They will cook everything for you, and so you will be served in small omakase plated style - Drink selection is great and pairs really nicely with the food - If you’re used to salty, strong seasoned food, you may find this too “delicate” or bland. But it was perfect for me, and what I think Japanese shabushabu should be like. Felt like the good, fresh ingredients were respected and well prepared. - With the portion as well, it’s perfect for an average sized person. Super full for smaller asian female, satisfied full for large asian male.
Amazing dining experience. Chef Mayu has cultivated a recipe and tasting menu that is second to none. The best part is you can't mess it up. They do the swishing of the meat for you. You just have to transport it to your mouth.
Recently savored a culinary adventure @shabushabumayumon in NYC! A huge shoutout to Chef Mayu for making it exceptional. #NYCDining #ShabuShabuMayumon"
One of my all time favorite dining experiences in NYC. Once you sit down, it’s basically a constant flow of meat for over an hour. I keep coming back for more because there’s nothing like it. Not to be missed!
