Scran Bistro

Very tasty.

Location is good but the food is really sub-par and even worse when the price is factored in. Got a full breakfast, and it was clearly premade and waiting to go, very poor quality . The egg was also raw with clear egg white. Service was quick and atmosphere was fine.

I visited here whilst at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We didn't book, just stumbled across it and walked in. It's much bigger than first anticipated, with lots of seating inside as well as out. The staff are very welcoming, and asked if we would prefer to be inside or out. As it got busier, the inside seating was full. I'm unsure if you can book this restaurant, but if you want to sit inside I advise you do so! Myself and my friend ordered the same, a Scran Stack. It was really good value, and very very tasty! Avocado, streaky bacon, black pudding, hash brown, potato scone, topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. The poached egg was cooked perfectly! Not so runny that there was uncooked white, but not so overdone that the yolk was solid, just perfect! The coffees here are also lovely, showing that the baristas are trained properly. Our coffees had different patterns in them. Despite being very busy due to the Fringe Festival, the restaurant didn't feel rushed and was staffed appropriately. We got our food and drinks in good time and the staff were always on hand if we needed them. When we return to Edinburgh, we will definitely visit Scran again, there's much more on the menu I would like to try!

Had a great party night recently. Staff were so helpful and made for a great night. Food was excellent too. Iwoukd highly recommend.

I am still in shock after visiting Scran Bistro in N Bridge Arcade today Wed 3 April 2024. Having had a simply lovely brunch there with my daughter in Feb I was really looking forward to returning. In Feb the waitresses were amazing and the food fantastic. In fact I complimented the staff as had such a brilliant experience. This is why I am in shock after visiting today with my husband and 2 children for lunch today. There was no table for 4 people free on arrival, so I suggested taking 2 tables for 2 in different parts of the restaurant, in effect separating our family. My daughter and I sat at a table for 2. However the 2 seats next to us at a table of 4 were free. The couple sitting on the other side of the 2 seats moved their coats and backpacks from the empty seats to free up the seats and so asked if they would mind my husband and son sitting next to us - which they agreed happily. I then waved my husband over. However when he and my son went to sit down they were blocked by the waiter who said they couldn't sit there. When my husband asked why he was told that it would be "too tight". My son is 11 and v slight so when my husband explained it would be totally fine for our son, the waiter again blocked him from sitting down saying "if you don't like it you can leave". My husband was totally shocked by the rude and bizarrely over-the-top response to obstruct us sitting together. My husband swore (which he is not proud of) and left the restaurant with our 2 children. When I attempted to ask for an explanation as to why they could not sit down with us, the waiter refused to explain his rationale. I told him he had spoilt a family day out and asked for the manager's name to which the waiter replied he was the manager. If that is the case, I urge him to dig deep and reflect on how he totally mishandled a simple request from a family to sit together, in 4 free seats next to each other. Still baffled. And sad. Shame on him if he is the manager. The rest of the team are fab.
