A wonderful piano player provides the background for this Russian Restaurant. Excellent service and a number of good choices from a menu of Russian cuisine makes for an enjoyable experience. The food, is not what it should be. The Beef Stroganoff, for example was served warm, not hot like it should have been. The restaurant is in a very good location for Broadway theater.
A little piece of Russia in New York
A really enjoyable experience. Noise level was extremely high because of some other patrons at the restaurant, but the food was good and the entertainment fun.
Amazing food, horrible service. If you like being ignored by everyone except the bus boy, this place is for you. We couldn't even pay unless we were willing to sign with our nose.
A welcoming old timey venue. White table cloths, careful service, waiters considerate of diners’ need to take their time. A varied ethnic menu, interesting selections and generous portions. Situated in the theater district but suitable for dining at any time.
Always wanted to try this place when I have visited NY but somehow never got around to it. I made a reservation for dinner before a concert. Warmly greeted and seated. There was a piano player plying softly in the background which was a nice touch. The menu was overwhelming with so many delicious sounding dishes. But first a martini, yes with Russian vodka f course. It was delicious and helped to whet our appetites. We shared an order of Varenki followed by the duck Moulard and the breaded chicken breast. Portions were huge and delicious. We also shared a flight of infused vodkas which was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Service was great throughout and prices reasonable. Too full for anything else. Definitely worth going out of your was and we will be adding this to our regular list of NY restaurants.
Are you looking for a restaurant to go to before or after a Broadway show? Russian Samovar is located right in the theater district in Manhattan, NY, and has live music. Full bar, incredible food, ambiance, and service. Indoor dining only. Don't forget to order a vodka flight and hot tea. We ordered borscht, vegetable stew with beef short rib, chicken Kiev, Russian duck, hot tea, and a flight of 6 different vodkas (flavors anyhow). FYI, most of their staff is Ukrainian, and the owner opened it in 1986.
Always a great time at Samovar. I have been many many times -this time I took some friends who had never been there before, and they had a blast.
Absolutely phenomenal place. Dancing. Music. Great food and service. Wonderful staff and owner. The highlight of my trip to New York.
