Unfortunately the staff are never too friendly here. They do seem to have a nice simple menu and decent beers available.
I was back in town visiting so I grabbed some drinks with a friend. Now that I’m older, hangovers are horrible even with a sip of beer so I made sure to take my OHCap pills before drinking to avoid one. They offer a variety of beers here ranging from porters to sour. They’re either tapped from a keg or it comes in a cool, colorful can. Outdoor seating is available with heat lamps in case it gets cold (which it did lol). We ended up moving inside anyways. Not a whole lot of seating but it was enough space for the three of us amigos to chill in the back. Bonus! They also offer small bites so we ordered a combo-type plate. Basically a charcuterie board with cured meats, cheeses, and spread. We ended up drinking a few more beers than we thought but thankfully I brought the OHCap with me. I’ll skip the hangover, thanks. I’d come here again in a heartbeat next time I’m around.
I can understand why regulars enjoy this spot. But I walked in and found service to be not rude, exactly, but…not warm. Wine list expensive and esoteric; I get that it’s a taproom but then, don’t bother having a wine list. Sandwich imaginative but not very tasty. Bread was so crusty I couldn’t chew it. So don’t worry Ed (see comment above), an old white woman got the same treatment you did.
This was at least my fifth trip here and we arrived a few minutes before they opened they graciously served as cold beer before the official opening thank goodness as it was a very warm day for Oakland anyway the service was great and I love the selection of beers hard to decide which too I'm going to have at every visit looking forward to trying something new next time
