Very nice evening with friends. Sitting outside was very enjoyable. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. I tried the chicken and sausage paella. Very good. Started out with the trio appetizer with guacamole, queso and the pineapple salsa. All three were excellent.

A local place that captures the flare of Birmingham. It is always crowded and is a semi long wait time to get your food due to that crowd. I'm not saying its not worth it but, definitely to keep in mind. On the food side, the food is ok, but not worth a days' salary. Food prices being in the Avondale area are standard. Food has always come out hot. It rivals Taco Mama but falls short in my book. This quaint little place is good for a party of two or three, but more than that it can become very tight. So if the dinner plans call for a Tex Mex flare head on down to Rojos. Be aware: There is no parking.

A great little spot in Highland Park with an extensive menu and friendly staff. Rojo is a fast causal concept, you order in the back, you're then given a number, afterwards you pick a spot to seat yourself, then your food is brought out to you. Service at Rojo has always been friendly, even on busy afternoons from my experiences. Finding a seat on the patio during the afternoon is almost impossible here though, that's how busy they are. They have a Latin and American double sided menu and there's a wide range of variety in terms of food. It's also a great place for Sunday brunch. They're also open until midnight 6/7 days of the week as well which is super convenient, which is a huge plus for the night owls.

A few things to know before coming here. There is very limited parking on both sides of the street in front of Rojo...so there is a good chance you will have to walk a little bit to get here. They can also be very crowded at normal lunch and dinner times. Lastly, they don't really have anything out that indicates what you should do when you get there. When you walk in it's almost like a normal entrance where you would expect somebody to seat you, but there isn't anyone there. There is a cook area to your right as well as a bar to the left. Straight ahead is a counter, not very obvious, where you should go. Here is where you place your order. Also, it's seat yourself, so any open table is up for grabs. For a drink I started with the Marshall Chai ($9.00). This amazing drink is made with: Vanilla Vodka, Baileys, and Chilled Chai Tea. This drink goes down so smoothly and has characteristics of a white Russian. Just a slight hint of the Chai Tea as your drinking. This is officially my go to drink at Rojo (unless sweet tea is sounding better that day). For my meal I went with the Shrimp Fajitas. This came with the following: grilled shrimp, onions, red & green peppers, rice, beans, salsa, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream 14.95 (I had them hold the beans and had them bring corn tortillas - regular order comes with flour tortillas). Shrimp was flavored really well and there was a good selection of grilled veggies to include in the fajita wrap. Overall vibe for this place is really cool, especially when you are looking at the restaurant from the street. That being said, the outdoor seating at least, could really use some updating, especially at the price point of the food. That being said I like that this place has some unique drink and menu items that you don't find on every other Mexican menu in town. If you haven't been you should really add them to the list of places to try.

A lot of variety here and can get whatever you want/need for very cheap. I got grilled chicken tacos which were good, but I suspect I would have better enjoyed one of their more elaborate dishes. Line moved fast and food came out even faster. All in all a good experience.

...That's how it feels when we go over to Rojo. Walk inside, check the specials on the board to your right or grab a menu from the same area if it's your first time or you need a refresher. Head straight on up to the cashier, place your order, pay your tab and grab a number. Either grab a glass and fill up at the carbonation station or go over to the bar and wait for whatever it is you ordered. Take your number to the table of your choice and enjoy your drink while you wait. Yes, it may seem a little grungy at first, but isn't that why we have health department ratings?... I've been eating here for years and there are numerous goodies on the menu. My favorite is the club salad with tons of ranch dressing but I've also enjoyed the chips and salsa, the bacon burger, the Philly cheesesteak, the Cuban and yes, the corn dogs among others. Never had a bad meal at Rojo!

1st visit here. Arrived Sunday at lunch prime time obviously. Busy. Rainy day so outside seating not an option. Staff member greeted us friendly after a few minutes. First time? Yes. She advised very busy, first come seating. Order at counter and bring to table. Found table in about 10 minutes and sat kid to hold while ordering. Bar and food ordering separate. Apps: Bandito Salsa says spicy, OK but not spicy for our taste. Queso Dip usual mex cheese dip & chip. Drinks: me a regular margarita or 2 ..ok Lover had Sangria..ok and Kid had Mexico Coca-Cola in bottle. Entrées: I had Red Chili Pork Burrito topped with Queso and side Salad. It was good. Lover had Bandito Tacos with Rice and Beans. Very Good! Kid was craving a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and had that from American menu. Said the BCS is the Best only to Billy's Tavern. We will be back!!!

A bit snug feeling at time but overall one of Birmingham's favorites for Mexican or American! Always a good time.

A friend and I, both from out of town, checked this place out after a glowing reccommendation from someone we met the night before that is from B-ham. I must say my expectations were pretty high. That being said, there is no host / hostess so you seat yourself. The place was packed, but we found a table fairly quickly when someone was leaving. We sat on the patio and it was a great place to people watch and the neighborhood is beautiful as well. After sitting for a few minutes waiting for service, we figured out that you order at the counter inside...a patron at the table next to us clued us in. I ordered for both of us and it was a pretty easy process. It would have been hard to carry all the drinks, but a server assisted. I ordered a pasta dish that had chicken, cliantro, diced tomatoes, parmesan cheese or something. It was ok. It just wasn't what I thought it would be and was kind of bland. My friend had the fish tacos and he was not overly impressed either. I wil say that I liked my house salad. It was nothing special, but it was fresh and I liked the dressing. All in all, I was disappointed and would not be in a rush to come back. The price was pretty good. I think it was under 40 for 2 entrees, an appetizer, 2 glasses of wine, a house salad, and iced tea. Also, when I eat dinner out I prefer to be waited on instead of doing a lot of the work myself.
